"The restaurant/hotel is up on a hill with a lovely view of the vineyards below, weil am Rhein and Basel. This looked like the perfect place for a family lunch on a sunny summer day. Unfortunately we could not enjoy it as much as we...would have liked because of the extremely unfriendly waitress. She came over to ask what we wanted to drink, and after literally seconds where our children could not decide what to take she made an annoyed face and left saying she would come back later. After a while she came back and we ordered. She looked totally bored, I can't remember exactly, I probably asked her to repeat what she had jotted down and she answered annoyed...At that point my husband and I were seriously thinking we should up and go, but the kids were starving so we stayed. We all received our plate at a different time. The food itself was ok. Two of us had schnitzel with potato salad. The schnitzel was a bit greasy but the salad good. I had a huge omelette with green salad...I found it annoying though that the omelette had ham in it and nobody had mentioned it (it just said omelette on the menu), as I prefer vegetarian food. Finally we decided not to take desert and ask for the bill. At this point there was a short moment of confusion as we discovered they did not take cards, only cash. And of course the lady was not happy when I offered to give her some swiss francs instead of euro. Eventually I found all the money we needed in Euro, and she was of course disappointed we didn't leave her a cent of tip. Sorry, this is not how you behave with customers in a restaurant, or with anybody for that matter! To summarize: the spot is beautiful, food is average, we won't go back as we don't enjoy being treated this way."

We enjoyed a drink on the beautiful terrace of this restaurant. However, the service was terrible: arrogant, lazy and unorganized.

The hotel I think is very quaint and stylish and I have seen other reviews stating the staff interaction was below par but for me I found the young woman on reception funny and engaging so I guess we are all different! The rooms are...tastefully decorated to a high standard so make a lovely location for a scenic holiday near to Basel. The hotel has a excellent restaurant which is dedicated to serving good traditional Swiss food but does not cater for individuals who want to just sit and have a chilled beer. I actually used the Pizzeria next door which has a lovely frontage and also was knocking out some good food who were quite glad to serve me. The Hotel provides a lovely continental breakf...

We previously visited the restaurant about years ago and only did this time because our preferred restaurant in Ötlingen had been closed on this day (Ruhetag). The view from their terrace is spectacular and worth a visit for that and to drink a beer...or glass of wine while enjoying it. Sadly nothing else has changed. Mediocre food at best, very small menu and less than stellar service. All dishes just thrown together. Out of the freezer and into the deep fryer for most items. Service was slow, hectic but civil. My lunch arrived luke warm with a sad salad swimming in some kind of vinegar/oil mess.. My partner had the daily special. Over cooked beef roast, peas and carrots with the peas cooke...

"Cheval Blanc is the ultimate classic French fine dining experience in Switzerland. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in Switzerland looking for a 3 Michelin stars experience. Located in the historical Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios. The riverside setting is charming and romantic. You start by a welcome drink at the terrace looking at the Rhine greeted by suited , polite and professional staff. The head chef Peter Knogl came to say hi before we moved to the main dining room and service started. The decor and interior is classy retro French with high ceilings, arches, classic chandeliers, large windows and round tables with candles. Ambience is warm and intimate. Service was top notch and impeccable. Staff were all knowledgeable with refreshing attention to details. Cuisine was modern french with Mediterranean influences, flavors were complex and dynamic. Ingredients were chosen carefully and courses were presented beautifully. I liked all of my courses, highlights of the menu were the Sardine Macaron, Langoustine curry, Red Mullet filet and the French saddle of lamb with mediterranean flavors. Wine pairing was excellent and enhanced every course taste and flavor. Sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable yet intimidating a bit. The French Cheese selections from Maître Antony in Ferrette was aromatic, rich and satisfying, Maître Antony is one of the best in the world that many Michelin starred Chefs get their fine cheeses selection from. The night ended well with a couple of delightful desserts courses, few delectable bites and some velvety chocolate. Overall, we had an elevated fine dining experience that will bring me back if in Basel again."
