"Looking around the town for somewhere we hadn't already tried, we came across Butz in a side street. Easy to overlook, as their main entrance is on a small square off the main drag. Very busy inside, we were lucky to get a seat (on...a Monday in September), so try to book. My wife and I both opted for the zwiebelrostbraten a very lean steak in a beer gravy, topped with crispy fried onions. My came with spaetzle whilst my wife chose the bratkartoffeln (pan fried potatoes) with hers both were first class. A generous salad came with each meal too. Probably the best meal we had in weeks touring Germany. Good service, and a wide range of drinks too. Highly recommended."

Fast and friendly service and affordable prices. Had the jaegersnitzel and the Sweinhaxe, quality and quantity was great. Worth a visit!

We returned to Gasthof Butz after about 20 months (mainly due to COVID restrictions), and I think it deserves an updated review. You can count on Gastof...

We stayed here again and ate here again. I would give the lodging a 3 or 4, but I would give the restaurant a 5. I had Rinderroulade, which is a fork tender...

Read a previous review stating many vegan options. When I entered the restaurant I asked if they had vegan options. To be told no and before I could say anything else the waiter walked away. I was happy to stay and have a drink whilst...my party of stayed but decided to give it a miss due to attitude.

If you enjoy german cuisine this is the right restaurant for you. It has Schweinshaxe, Maultaschen, Rotbarsch and several other traditional courses. We sat inside, the atmosphere is pleasant and the waitress was very helpful. The prices are fair. Nice option in this authentical historical...town, were I have been for the second time.

We found this place via TA during a day-trip to Rothenburg. First, the staff was super nice and spoke great English. We had the Jagerschnitzel with mushroom gravy, fried potatoes and salad and it was great. I normally don’t like unbreaded schnitzel, but this was...delicious. Also, the food came out hot and the drinks really cold (for Germany so that was nice. Overall, this was an awesome place. We definitely recommend you try it. We’ll be back!!

Having booked in advance we were a little concerned coming across Butz on our way into town. We had reserved at table outside and the courtyard looked a little dingy unwelcoming. We arrived for dinner with a little apprehension. Soon dismissed we walked...through the lovely little Gasthof and into a very pleasant area at the front of the restaurant. Nice open, light airy space. Phew. : Our waiter was very attentive, helpful and good fun. The menu was standard fayre' and on arrival we found it to be of a good standard, well prepared, well presented and fresh. Very enjoyable, and a lovely evening sat out in a pleasant place. Would happily return.

"The owners of the hotel were so lovely and friendly. We stayed for one night including breakfast. The room was clean and warm as we went during heavy snow, shame there was no tea making facilities as it would have been nice being in the freezing cold. Beds were comfy enough and the room we had also had a bathtub. No TV in ours, although some rooms have depending which you get assigned. Great location. The bad part of our stay was unfortunately this unpleasant woman working during the breakfast who proceeded to shout at us. Breakfast was served until 10.30am and my partner and I arrived at 10am to be served breakfast and usually there is no real time limit to finish this. (The breakfast was very generous and delicious) Not once were we told the staff was expecting us to finish everything AT 10.30. This blonde woman with glasses then came out at 10.25, didn’t speak to us and simply stood at our table staring. She then walked away. She then came out AGAIN at 10.30 rudely shoving a paper saying 10.30 in my partner’s face (he speaks German) and then she proceeded to raise her voice and shout at us for not eating quick enough and how they’re supposed to get the restaurant ready when they had enough time. Checkout is at 11am so we left breakfast at 10.50 to quickly pack up and check out, and by the time we came down the table was cleared. So it took less than 10 mins to clear our table and it was clearly unnecessary to have this woman ruin our morning and our stay. If you do stay here and have breakfast either get ready to finish 5 rolls of bread, 2 cakes, a cheeseboard, selection of meats, eggs, cereal, tea and coffee before 10.30 or get ready to be yelled at. She needs to learn manners tbh."
