"The ambience was intimate and the lighting particularly good. The staff were attentive and professional. The problem was that we had read so many good reviews of the food, we had quite high expectations. We both ordered the vegetarian menu and found it to be hit and miss. The Aloo Chat was delicious and the curried eggs were very enjoyable too. However, the tough broccoli in a sour and spicy sauce was borderline unpleasant. The main disappointment was the main final course: bland rice (I yearned for cumin, or coconut, or something that would make it nicer than the boil in the bag rice one might cook at home), and Sag Paneer that was just a bit flavourless. The Sag was nice enough, paneer is mild by nature, but it was a boring end to a meal that started with good promise."

Tables were a little small considering tapas style dining but generally food was high quality if not a little over-priced

Amazing food, reasonable prices, generally good service until we were finished only minor gripe was no one cleared our plates and it was a bit hard to grab a waiter to get our bill. Will definitely be back!!

I adore the cuisine at Gunpowder. I also value the fact that it's not a noisy environment. We were able to have a pleasant meal with easy conversation, as we could all hear each other clearly. This is a stark contrast to other restaurants where I struggle to hear the person sitting next to me, which detracts from the overall experience for me.

I couldn't find any faults with this restaurant. Everything was carefully planned and executed, and I definitely plan on returning. The food was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and served in just the right portion size. I paid around £50 for myself and a guest for lunch and left feeling very satisfied. Overall, a fantastic little gem of a restaurant. View menu

Whilst the food wasn't bad the lack of service and atmosphere did not make this an enjoyable dinner. It's a very small place and therefore quite loud and my dish was served around 20 minutes after that of my partner, whilst the waitress was asking if all was ok with our food. Plus, an Indian place with no Naan seems a bit weird. There are better places to chose from when it comes to Indian food.

A cosy atmosphere, with delicious twist on traditional dishes. We had the vegetarian dishes, aloo chaat, okra fries, broccoli roast and saag paneer. We were sat on a sharing table, which was a bit awkward, as the space was tight. We really enjoyed the starters. The broccoli was ok, and there was no bread option which was a little disappointing. But all in all a decent experience. Price with a bottle of wine came to approx £80 for two
