"The ambience was intimate and the lighting was particularly good. The staff was attentive and professional. The problem was that we had read so many good reviews of food, we had very high expectations. We both ordered the vegetarian menu and found it to meet and miss. The Aloo chat was delicious and also the cured eggs were very pleasant. However, the hard broccoli was limitless in an acidic and spicy sauce. The most important disappointment was the last course: Blandreis (I longed for Cumin, or Coconut, or something that would make it more beautiful than cooking in the bag rice that could be cooked at home), and Sag Paneer, that was just a bit tasteless. The Sage was nice enough, the slice is mild from nature, but it was a boring end to a meal that started with good promise."

The most creative Indian-inspired meal I've had in my entire lifeComing from the States, we just don't get Indian food like this.

OK this place could have served me almost anything and it would still get massive kudos from me for the background music! Proper old school Bollywood music

Gunpowder has a good array of tapas-style Indian delicacies. The Spicy Venison and Vermicelli Doughnut is a must-have as well as the Chettinad Pulled Duck.

I love the food at Gunpowder. I also appreciate that it is not a loud room. We were all able to hear and enjoyed a delicious meal with a comfortable conversation, unlike some places where I can hardly hear the person sitting next to me who ruined everything for me.

Can't mistake this place, everything about it was well thought out, well executed and I'll go absolutely again. The food was well flavored, well seasoned and portioned, not too much/to little. I paid £50 for me and a guest (lunch) and went very happy. Great little place.

We had the pre-set menu. Food was delicious. However, this place is very small and if you come as a couple they will sit another couple right next to you at the same table for four if they have larger groups (which they did the night we were there). Table is too small to accommodate all the dishes. Noise level is incredibly loud. Only come here for the food.

We had the set menu (non vegetarian) traditionally cooked Indian food, fabulous flavours and spices, delivered separately over time (not rushed) each dish just enough to share. Being a small space, everyone is close including the staff and that adds to the whole ambience and all the staff are attentive and genuinely friendly and personable. Most likely one of the best and most original Indian restaurants in London. And the Malbec was good too of course! This sounds like the kind of flattering review I’d read and think was false, but this one is real! Loved it and will be back.
