"On a rainy afternoon in early May, the "Haus der 100 Biere" proved the right refuge for us tourists: with everybody else somewhere else (probably trying to recover from the Mayday-Party the night before), we had the luxury of choosing a table right at the window. The atmosphere may be different when the place is packed. We were able to enjoy the quiet ambiance with a good view of the pedestrians rushing by outside in the rain. Smokers are seated at the back of the place in a separate box sealed-off by glass walls. Sampling the drafts on tap, we started with 0.3l glasses of the more local brews ("Berliner Pilsner", "Radeberger") and then moved on to the Czech and Bavarian varieties ("Budvar" and "Weihenstephan"). Here we stopped rather than trying all the 10 varieties on tap. More sophisticated and more exotic brands are only served as bottled. The food offered on the daily specials menu (available until 16:00) was excellent and came in such big portions that we had to share. Our favorite was the "Leberkäse" (2 thick slices) with fried egg and roasted potatoes. The single portion was tasty and filling for two - at €7.60, which we found very reasonable given the location!Best of all, however, was the friendly and highly attentive service: many thanks to our host Sina, who deserved every cent of the tip we left!"
