"Went there with a friend who lives in the neighbourhood. Heuriger' are a very traditional type of Austrian restaurant, somewhere between a buffet and a traditional dining establishment. You can order from the fixed menu or simply walk in and order what you like out...of the counter, which makes it a lot more flexible. For specific dishes (ham hocks, for instance) the menu even details how long you will have to wait as everything is made fresh to order. The place is conveniently located round the corner from the Ottakring (line 3) metro station and can also be easily reached by tram (number 2). The atmosphere is very traditional and convivial, with tables outside in the private courtyard and waitresses wearing the traditional Austrian attire. Wine is best ordered by the jug and it's house wine by the way as opposed to glasses. But then again it would be best to go to these places in smallish groups rather than on your own. Don't worry if you don't speak fluent German, the waitresses and the owner understand English. My Chinese colleagues managed to order and pay without any issue whatsoever. Prices are average for Vienna, with mains ranging from €8 to €10, and portions are quite substantial when ordering from the fixed menu. Overall, an experience! If you're looking for a very traditional restaurant, then give this a try!"
