"We arrived early in the evening and were greeted with a friendly welcome. We chose a table by the window with a good view of the outside world. For starter we shared a mix of [sorry I have forgotten what the mix was called but...it was delicious]. Hot, freshly cooked and perfect start to the meal. We each chose on of the steak offerings. It arrived quickly, hot and was absolutely delicious. I (as the non-driver) had a glass of Beaujolais perfect complement for the steak. For dessert, I had the French classic Ile flottante and my partner creme brulée. Perfect in each case. Finishing with one coffee, one coffee gourmand we shared the delicious tiny desserts that came with the gourmand. The service was friendly, attentive and could not be faulted. Perfect in every way. BUT... I used to travel frequently in the US and would almost always have a margarita cocktail at Mexican and other restaurants. Hippopotamus had Frozen Margarita on the menu. I asked if it came with salt around the rim of the glass... (essential for an authentic margarita)... non Not to worry, I ordered a margarita anyway. The drink that arrived was colour yellow (a real margarita is white with a tinge of green from the lime juice). I tasted it, looked again at the menu, and the menu confirmed that its principal ingredient is mango juice. I imagine that it also contained tequila but its taste was overwhelmed by the taste of mango. The Hippopotamus margarita was chilled, let alone frozen "frozen in the US means that a cocktail is served on finely crushed ice A normal margarita will contain: Crushed ice, triple sec (or Cointreau or equivalent), Tequila, and lime juice. Plus a slice of lime as garnish. Hippopotamus's margarita was like no margarita that I have ever had. And best to be avoided. (Unless you love cocktails with a strong taste of mango juice So a bit of a disappointment."

one of the few restaurants opened on Sunday night in caen. very medium food (slightly hot meat plates, poorly debited tabs, insipid roquefort sauce, green accompaniment salad). Excellent service.1st and last experience in a hippopotamus.

If you want to eat then pass. the food served is like what is done in the other great food chains. the dishes served are without flavor. Even fries are not successful. the only positive point is that the waitress asked me to cook my chopped steack piur mon burger. View menu

during each holiday in france, we hurry to go to hippopotamus! The welcome is warm and smiling. service is fast and responsive. Inside, a small carpaccio covered with parmesan, miam! in flat, a cooked beef filet on the bone. impeccable cooking and always excellent accompaniment. I can only recommend this restaurant for meat lovers!

Great service, when we arrived we told the waitress that we had a train to take in the hour. She rushed to take our order and bring it to us in 10min! dessert included! and this, with smile and courtesy. Thank you small flat on the quality of the pins (too much nerve), the fries were very good and the ratio of quality / correct price to recommend for pressed

After being in Caen for a few nights and struggling to find a restaurant with decent international food, we ‘typically’ came across this place on our final evening. Both the host and the waiter, Clement were fantastic, so pleasant and made our experience a lovely...one. The poached egg and asparagus on the starter menu was delicious, we enjoyed this with a mojito. For our main, we had a selection of Filet, T-bone and Capaccio all were outstanding. We were too full for dessert but Clement still brought over a lolly pop treat and gift box for our year old son who was delighted. We would definitely recommend this place Thank you Clement for making our evening View menu

for a meat restaurant there were 7 references to the map. stock rupture after so saying the strong affluence of the we...we were just Tuesday night...bref I flew on a double tartare supposed to represent more than 300g of pleasure.
