"After a long weekend of Chester we explored and booked this restaurant. This was our first time here and booked it on a Sunday for 4.30, when Sunday lunch ended at 5. Arrived at 4 for happy hour Oysters who were good. They showed that they were busy, so they sat on a small table, just before the bar, as no other tables were laid. However, there was no Sunday noon 3 course set menu so I tried to order the pork stall. No ****! I chose a steak and my wife had fish and chips. Drinks were ordered first, but after I finished my 6 Oysters, I remembered the staff that drinks were not delivered to the table. only 10 people in the restaurant. The food was good. The atmosphere was bad as my wife and I were sitting in an empty restaurant. At the end of the meal, the waitresses sat at the bar to eat. Sad to see one of the employees eat a roast meal! On THIS experience today, the rating is low. At the time we booked, we should have been informed on the website that Sunday noon is available until it is gone. We also felt that we were more of an inconvenience at that time in the late afternoon. What I would have liked /expected to pass from a restaurant of this standard was more than “perturbable about it”, a kind of customer service that would have made a compromise or a small offer, like a 3 course set dinner as expected, but perhaps pay a little more depending on what main was ordered. In no way did we feel an important customer."

This restaurant is a hidden gem, but could use more staff in the front of house. We found that when ordering a pricier steak, it would have been better served on warm plates to maintain its temperature. The quality and preparation of the food were exceptional, but you had to eat quickly to fully enjoy it while it was still hot.

I almost never bother writing a review but I feel compelled to in this case. The service here was a combination of slow and aloof, the food (particularly the steak) was below average and expensive, the oysters were nice but at £5 each they needed to be. It felt like a place that's had better days and I would not recommend it. We spent nearly £250 on a meal for 3 and I've had better food and service for less than half the price.
