"Booked last minute. Slightly concerned we could be fitted in so readily, surprisingly unbusy. Warmly welcomed, we had chicken pies and Sunday lunch, beef. Warmed plates, two generous slices of perfectly cooked beef, two roasties, yorkshire puds, mash and plenty of well presently veg. A huge boat of tasty gravy and another separate one for the chicken pies, which were also delicious. We had nothing to worry about, got lucky finding this pub. Excellent. Felt a little less pressurised into desserts, which we declined. A dessert board would be good, not everyone can afford, feels like or can fit one in. I'm sure they would have been equally delicious though. Would definitely recommend this pub. A friendly village pub atmosphere, great food, reasonably priced and nice landlord."

The food and service at this restaurant are excellent. You can't ask for more for a friendly Sunday lunch. It's a bit off the beaten path, but definitely worth a visit.

Went in for a nice meal, and it sure was! The food was all amazing, especially the brownie. Cute dog there so I was very happy to pet her as well. Lovely owners, very friendly and lovely to chat with :

Excellent Sunday Lunch at a very reasonable price served by very friendly staff. The whole experience was as expected following the recommendation we received from the owners of Gitcombe House where we were staying at the time. View menu

A last minute decision on a monday night found us at this gem of a pub. Excellent food and very friendly hosts . We enjoyed the special menu items..the Lamb Kofte starter was superb, and the hanging kebabs were accompanied by the best chips we can remember. Strongly recommend a visit here. Excellently kept ales, but also try the white Rioja!

Visited for here an evening meal. I had the seafood hanging kebab. The tuna and monkfish were beautifully cooked. It can be easy to overcook monkfish but this was lovely and tender. The decor was modern but had a warmth and charm that sometimes gets lost when an pub is updated. The prices were reasonable compared to what you can pay in Dartmouth. I would highly recommend a visit here.

I don’t think we have ever had such a fantastic welcome from any place we have stayed. The team are amazing as is the food. The ingredients were high quality cooked with love and skill. The rooms were clean and comfortable with no sound from pub below. The pub is set in a beautiful quiet Devon village, close to the river Dart and the lovely towns of Totnes and Dartmouth. Thank you Graham, Sue and Laura, we couldn’t recommend this pub enough! View menu

Had a fabulous stay at the Hunters Lodge Inn. Graham and Sue are exceptional hosts; welcoming, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast and dinner was excellent, everything Sue and their son cooked was fantastic. The rooms were of a very good size, spotlessly clean and well decorated. There was lots of lovely little touches in the rooms, such as chocolate and a eco friendly make up remover, The beds and bathrooms were beautifully equipped. We would thoroughly recommend the Hunters Lodge and will definitely return.

During our stay at a vacation rental in Cornworthy, we were in need of dinner after a long drive from East Sussex. We decided to walk to the Hunters Lodge inn in search of a meal, and what a pleasant surprise it was! The food was delicious, reasonably priced, and the staff treated us like old friends from the moment we arrived. We enjoyed our experience so much that we returned the following evening, which happened to be New Year's Eve. Once again, we were warmly welcomed and felt like part of the village community. We celebrated the holiday with the staff and locals in front of a cozy fire, enjoying great snacks and drinks. This is a true gem of a pub - be sure to pay them a visit!

"The positive is that the food is good. But the negative is the service time and the attitude of the staff. We were seated and had our order taken after 20 minutes. A little slow but it was a busy Saturday evening so understandable. Starters came promptly and were eaten. We then got ignored by every passing member of staff for at least 50 minutes. Quite the skill! Once there was a break in our conversation and I realised how long it had been, I stood up to intercept a waitress and asked “are our mains on the way, please?” Our ticket was checked by her at the kitchen hatch and we were told “yes”. At this point our starter plates were cleared after they had sat on the table for at least 35 minutes. Our mains then took another 25 minutes to get to us, so I suspect that being told they were on their way was a lie. To be clear: we were given our mains 1hr 20 mins after placing our order. I complained to a waitress who sent over a manager. The manager asked if we’d had starters (yes, we had) and said that it was our fault our main was so late as we’d had a first course. How insulting!!! Blaming the customer for their bad service. Disgusting. When I said it was still far too long to wait between courses she then changed tack and said the kitchen was “really really busy” well, they weren’t busy cooking our food now were they?! And despite the place being full when we arrived, by this point of the night over half the tables were empty. There were 3 tickets on the pass along with ours and tables were 2 4 people (no large groups) so I feel that was also another lie to get out of it. What a shocking way to treat customers! My advice to you is: if you want your food served in a timely manner, either take the advice of the manager and don’t order a starter, or, be sure to communicate with waitstaff once your first course is finished and ask for your main to be cooked and served promptly. (Note: food also sat under the heat lamps for long lengths of time as staff stood socialising with one another behind the bar rather than serve customers) I hope this advice is of use as I would have appreciated it ahead of my visit! Good luck. [Reading other reviews, ours is not the only experience of slow service and seeing staff chat to one another rather than deal with the customers paying their wages.
