"I was looking on TA for a restaurant within easy distance of Bilbao for a day trip whilst on our gastronomic visit to the city. Plenzia is the last station on Line 1 of the Bilbao metro, a forty five minute €1.75 journey from the Casco Viejo area of Bilbao. Listed under Plenzia restaurants is, Restaurante Itxas Gane. The restaurant is not actually in Plenzia but a short taxi ride away in the seaside hamlet of Barrika. The restaurant serves mainly fish and seafood but meat dishes are also available. I also understand that this family owned and run restaurant has its own day boat that supplements the restaurant menu with its daily catch. This seemed just the sort of restaurant we wanted for a leisurely lunch and a Spanish friend kindly telephoned the restaurant to make us a reservation. Four of us arrived to a very friendly greeting and were served aperitifs in the garden. We were then seated in the window with an excellent view of the sea, and shown the catch of the day. The largest sea-bass I’ve ever seen and a very large sea-bream. The menu is only in Spanish but with our limited Spanish and the restaurateur’s limited English we were soon able to make our individual choices. For starters, two chose clams, one had some very large prawns and the other sardines. For our main course two of us shared a turbot whilst the other two chose monk-fish tails. This was all washed down with several bottles of excellent Albarino. There was a good selection of deserts to be followed by coffee and digestives. I wouldn’t describe the meal as one TA writer did as a “gastronomic orgasm” but it was very, very good. Plenty of nice bread, lots of olive oil and garlic, excellent. It was not cheap, but then good food rarely is. The all female waiting staff must be complimented on their pleasant, efficient and unobtrusive manner in which they worked. I must point out that when we sat down for lunch we were the only diners in the restaurant. Within an hour every table was taken inside and most of those in a covered area outside. So, should you be tempted to dine at Itxas Gane, do make a reservation in order to avoid disappointment. After lunch we were able to walk the short distance to the cliff top, where, should you have the energy you could descend steps to the beach. Overall, a most enjoyable experience."

The best fish restaurant I´ve ever been to I think! Located right near the beach. Parking is a bit difficult but there´s a large carpark nearby.

Excelente tratamiento del pescado. Hay que pagarlo, pero es una apuesta segura. Esta vez cenamos rape, exquisito, pero cualquier pescado que pruebes lo estara...por lo menos esa es nuestra experiencia View menu

very good quality food, served with drop and well presented. drink with fireplace that was appreciated on a really unstable day. very nice details when we went to an inner dining room to see that there were groups of people celebrating farewells so that we would be more calm without having to ask ourselves. all very clean with good dishes, tableware and glasses. excellent wine and desserts made and rich. the price is consistent with quality and service. It's worth it.

One of the best restaurants in the Bilbao area. The fish is just unbelievably fresh and anazingly cooked. We asked for a big lubina to share and one of the cooks came out of the kitchen with a massive fish dancing in his arms asking if this one was fine... amazing! The portions are generous yet well presented, if you call ahead and you manage to get a table in the private terrsce they have facing the sea for dinner, you can enjoy the sunset, and it's just an amazing experience

Itxas Gane restaurant has a great seafood that must be tried at least once. Everything has high quality and is fresh. The staff is professional and so friendly. If you like cod you can have there a real amazing one (2 different varieties). The atmosphere is great and you feel comfortable from the very first moment. Waiter/waitress are always there to advice you and also to let you know the off-menu dishes. Wide selection on wines. Cold and hot starters are simply amazing. A great choice for seafood lovers. It is not a cheap restaurant but the quality justifies the price. View menu

This summer was the 5th time I have eaten here and again I am impressed how well the Basque can cook! Perfection! The Basque area is proud of their traditions and cuisine which is not surprising because quite simply, it is superior to many other areas. Fish is the focus of the menu here, however all meat dishes are also delicious! This is very typical of the costal Basque area the one difference is the quality and preparation of the produce, is outstanding! They have a good choice of wines to compliment the food and the prices are fair! The seating capacity of the restaurant itself is not so numerous but this is complimented with a terrace. Therefore reservations are a must, but it is worth...

We spent a week in the area and nearly all restaurants have the same menu this is no exception, no real salads, no vegetables with main course except green peppers and potatoes..... This place has a very busy terrace at the front and a dark corridor at the back that is the restaurant. It has no natural light so is a bit uncomfortable but has modern decoration. The menus is basically protein and carbohydrate steaks and chips, fish and potatoes. Quality is good but selection is so limited it doesn't actually matter which restaurant you go to, they all offer the same one can only assume that's what the locals want but even my husband (who is a local) even got bored by the end of the week. We as...

"I would fly back to Bilbao just to experience this culinary art and visual sensations again. This is where gastronomy meets art. From the projected menu, table-side preparation, to 3D goggles, every dish was well orchestrated and carefully presented. The 14-course Chef Plus menu is the best choice and it was a mind-blowing 3-hour journey. I have been to several 3 and 2 stars Michelin Star restaurants around the world, and this one-star establishment gave me more excitement and surprises than some more famous ones. This is the only Michelin star restaurant that I have been to where you get to see the chef several times throughout the dinner. Their seafood dishes were the best ones I have ever had that I can truly taste the intense flavor of the ingredients, not the sauce. I have had numerous cousins with truffle before, but none of them are memorable. The aroma of the white truffle in the soup I had here today was truly legendary. The number one course for me was the dessert named Caprice of Eucalyptus Raspberry and Tomato. I was curious about the use of tomato in a desert at first, but then it became my most favorite moment of the night. The transformation of a simple ingredient such as tomato into a whole new texture and flavor was just like magic. I have never ordered an a la carte item from a prix fixe menu before, but I did tonight just to experience it twice. Again, the tomato won my heart. The raspberry biscuit was equally amazing by itself, but the shock from the tiny tomato dices hidden inside this dessert was just beyond words. This was easily the best Michelin one-star restaurant for me, and it surpassed some of my past 2-star and 3-star culinary experiences. Maybe Yelp is not commonly used in Spain, so there was only one review about this place. I would not notice this place if I just walk by, since you can 't see inside from the street. You have to ring the bell in order to get in. I went to the adjacent restaurant by mistake, since it was the only one open around there. Then I was escorted to the right place. Don 't be shy to ring the bell, even though it looks like they are closed from outside. You will not be disappointed."
