"Half way between Venice and Ravenna on SS309, Ristorante La Cueva is right next to the old 11th century Benedictine Abbey at Pomposa. We had come to see the Abbey and paused for lunch at La Cueva. The place is modest and unpretentious. The food was wonderful. The menu was in Italian, and I wasn 't quite sure what I was reading, except that I could tell after two and and half weeks in Italy that it wasn 't full of the usual pasta offerings. We ordered bruschetta and got some with sauteed fresh mushrooms and another with fresh roasted small tomatoes. Great bread, great olive oil. My husband had ordered a dish we understood to be beef which turned out to be tenderloin grilled to perfection and presented with some more small roasted tomatoes and fresh lettuce. I ordered the pasta that translates as strangled priest. It came with a creamy walnut sauce topped with how to explain it? A thin, thin slice of ham had been shaved off an aged leg of pork and then sliced again into narrow strips and then fried crispy. So I had something crispy with something creamy. We were so very, very happy. I wish I 'd had room for even the thought of dessert, but I didn 't. Was it so wonderful because we came with good appetites and no particular expectations? I don 't think so, but I don 't care. I 'd go back in a minute and order anything on the menu without asking for a translation. I think there 's outdoor seating, but we came at the end of March, so we ate inside. Every other customer seemed to be Italian that 's a good sign, right? As we were leaving, the local carabineri arrived for lunch."

La Cueva has been a very pleasant surprise. We have been there now multiple times since July and I must say: very good. The fact that we keep going back is the best indicator. Being able to lunch outside in a fantastic environment is great. The food is good. The eel slowly cooked in a smoker is very very nice. Good assortment of wines. Friendly and correct service. I'll be back!! Peter

Visited for a quick lunch on a business trip. Menu is tilted towards fish and seafood, with some classics and other more creative options. Paid EUR 32 for starter (grilled calamari) pasta main (gnocchi with monkfish, asparagus and fava beans), water and coffee: it's an honest price given that it was all fish. The restaurant is right next to the Abbey of Pomposa too, which looked lovely but was I too in a rush to visit.

luca and simona do not miss the opportunity to make happy the people who have the super idea of having a supraffino lunch in an absolutely inimitable setting. the beautiful day of sun, the thousand-year-old abbey of pomposa and the dishes so well-kept that the couple of young chefs give us go, worth a nice smile and a return as soon as possible. thank you luca, thank you simona and a hug to the very good mother ornella who wisely manages the room making everyone feel at home.

We stopped here for a quick lunch after visiting the abbey. was a pleasant surprise: delicious tranci pizza, stuffed with lots of vegetables, soft and crisp at the same time. beer at the bar and wine of the area, perhaps only a bit expensive (8 euros the average beer and 6 the glass,) but, really, for the quality of the offer, the spectacular location and the kindness of the staff, some euros more do not disturb. highly recommended, I will definitely return. I think they're a restaurant. I'm curious.
