"My wife Martine I, as well as our closest friends, are passionate about excellence when it comes to food, wine and customer service. The experience we had yesterday at Le 6eme Sens was a complete shock and disappointment. Here’s what happened: To celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary, close friends had given us a gift certificate for lunch or dinner at this Brive restaurant which was dated April, 2019 and it indicated that it was valid only for 6 months. Unfortunately, during that period I developed a serious medical condition that dragged on into the 2020 Covid pandemic and closure of all restaurants here in France for nearly a year. Last Tuesday, Martine found the dining gift certificate and as restaurants here are just now reopening she called and speaking directly to the women (who identified herself as the Owner) inquired if they would accept the ‘expired’ gift certificate for a lunch yesterday. Martine was advised there was no problem, so we made the 1 hour drive to Brive for what should have been a delightful lunch. We arrived to an empty restaurant at 12:30 and were received by the owner who seated us at a table on their terrace… She was presented with the certificate and abruptly said she would not accept it because it was issued in April, 2019. We were dumbfounded. Martine had called, talked to her, and the owner personally had made the reservation less than 48 hours before! Needless to say we were shocked and had there been other guests we would have been extremely embarrassed. We told her if the issue was price increases we’d understand, and gladly pay a supplement. Nothing doing. We had to walk out. When customer service is so utterly lacking from management other things usually are on there way downhill. It was belated anniversary celebration, I can tell you lunch would have been preceded by a cocktail, and a bottle of their very best vintage would have been served with our meal. The server would have received a very generous tip and had the cuisine been what we had anticipated the restaurant would have seen us a couple more times this summer."
