"Finally a good restaurant in the centre of Saintes with views of the beautiful river Charente. The views are so good because this restaurant is actually located on the river. It is a newly built Peniche - dutch barge, which looks a bit forbidding moored alongside the Arch of Germanicus but once inside, you will find a bright modern restaurant which is fairly buzzing during lunch time service. Besides a full a la carte menu there is a Formule fixe changed daily and good value, if not the cheapest, at 18euros for 3 courses or 15 euros for 2, starter main, or main dessert. All the fish dishes we have tried there have been good, very fresh and nicely cooked and they do good burgers too. In the evening, the main deck is a bar only so all dining on the lower deck, therefore worth booking ahead to ensure you get a table which looks out to the river rather than the few that face into the wall. In summer there are a few tables set up outside at the back of the upper deck. Service from the young team of servers is prompt, efficient and cheerful."

What a great night if you're ever in Saintes. The staff was nice, friendly and helpful, the food was very good indeed and with good designs to choose beers, even this was a great night. When the evening became darker, the atmosphere and the ambience on the boat took up a new life that was very pleasant. We will definitely go back and recommend a visit at any time.

It won't be to everyone's tastes particularly those of you looking for a hearty meal. But if you have a good command of French or Google translate handy then you should enjoy reading the descriptive menu as a prelude to the real thing. The €27 set menu represents great value. Food, flavours and service were excellent. And if you still find fault with those then there's always the picturesque view especially at sunset.

Ate here while stopping in Saintes on a return trip from Spain to UK. We were very impressed by the location and the food. The staff were really helpful, the young waiter helping us translate the menu.We had course plate de nuit and a very...coiffable bottle of red wine. The food was typically French and nicely presented. Only disappointment was my husband's paté which came in mushroom soup. Over all a very enjoyable meal.

Choice Le Batia as a venue for my birthday dinner with husband according to the recommendation of our local cook Wow what a pleasure. Sad weather meant that we were sitting inside but ambience design very easy with good distance between tables. Staff very friendly, speed... service perfectly timed. My husband chose a menu du Jour I went for the 27euros menu so we could taste each other dishes. Each dish was stunning, good portion size for lunch nicely prepared especially the fish dishes. We'll be back for lunch during the summer.

Having just arrived in Saintes at lunchtime, we emerged from the tourist information office , map in hand , to explore this lovely town. Right in front of us we saw a barge on the Charante advertising a lunchtime menu du jour for 18 Euros....It looked a bit posh for such a reasonable price but we ventured forth. The restaurant itself is decorated with classy simplicity and you can choose to sit inside or outside. The advertisement was not a lie, we got three superb courses for 18 Euros each. In fact, my starter was one of this years gastronomic highlights of carpaccio of beef on a quinoa salad. Beautiful to look at, clean eating and very tasty. My partner had a simple but equally tasty mozza...
