"I was in Essen for about 6 months on business and this is one of my favorite restaurants in town. It is a fairly small place on a quiet little side street but not far from the main strip of the Rüttenscheid. Very cozy inside and the ambiance is wonderful. The owner and staff are all very friendly, the wine selection is outstanding, and the food is wonderful. There is a standard menu as well as seasonal dishes which change daily. The pastas are particularly good (Spaghetti a la maison is great, as are the seasonal pastas) and so is the ratatouille. They have a nice selection of cheeses and meats as well. Some other reviewers were confused by the blätterteig quiche which is not a typical quiche (blätterteig is a puff pastry). There are a few seats at the bar and some outdoor seating when the weather is nice but if you have a larger group or want to go on the weekend I would recommend a reservation as it can get busy. I highly recommend this place for drinks or dinner."

super wine, great food and very nice service. the place is rustic and rustic. I recommend that they take a kiss, because a delicate popo at some point blows on the wooden benches; it can recommend this locally unrestricted.

the quality of eating is super, wine card is excellent and super friendly and fast service. the size of the restaurant is a bit small and therefore a bit loud and difficult to keep talks. but all in all a clear recommendation!

I'm sure I'm coming here with my business partners and can count on careless. the seats were cleaned and the seats were particularly comfortable. it's always nice and we had a nice evening here. test this good kitchen, on the menu there is something in the rule for everyone.

I enjoy chat noir really for its warm, cozy feeling, good choice of weeping and delicious eating. the only problem is to find a place without pre-booking - especially Friday and Saturday(you have a reply machine and call it again and again for this purpose. would definitely recommend it!

beautiful little restaurant that has managed to sit 7 of us as a walk and declares regular favorites of my colleagues. excellent value at around 15 euro for couple beer and main course. portions are generous to say the least! we shared a...cheat plate that was beautiful; great variety and quality. I had the homemade gnocchi, which was delicious and my colleagues went for the house spaghetti or artichokes lasagne. the salate also looked brilliant. only underpass is the frequent practice in Germany, not to take a card that caught a few of us out.

Lovely little restaurant that managed to seat 7 of us as a walk in and declared regular favourite of my colleagues. Excellent value at around 15 Euro for couple of beers and main course. Portion sizes are generous to say the least! We shared a cheese plate to start which was lovely; great variety and quality. Only downfall is the common practice in Germany of not taking card, which caught a couple of us out.

I have been there several years ago, and there were wonderful things like whole grain noodles gratinee and salad with raspberry vinegar available. But this time things changed. Anyway, I had a salad with cheese, that was ok, except the olives that were a little dry and not nice tasting, but was enough for me. My company had something like blätterteig quiche mit lachs. However, this has nothing to do with a quiche, it was only a puff pastry (unfilled) with some salmon on top. It was not bad, but misdescribing what you get !Long story short, nice atmosphere, nice waitress, meals were worse than years ago (but ok) and currently bad in detail (olives) or described wrongly on the menu.Choice of win...
