"This little gem was in an alley way just around the corner from our accommodations in Antibes and they specialized in paella which was made fresh to order. The restaurant will prepare the paella for 2, 4, 6 or 8 people and if you call ahead and let them know what you want it can be customized to a certain extent with a variety of ingredients such as seafood, chicken and sausage. First the place; it is small and cozy in a rustic decor reflecting its Spanish heritage. In general L'Ecureuil Espagnol makes you feel like you wondered off the streets into some little hole in the wall gem that is a well kept secret with the locals. Great Start. This may be great or this may be bad but there is something interesting enough to make you sit down and give it a try. Then it just becomes magical. A bottle of local wine, the owner spends time to guide you to a wonderful seafood paella that is so delicious erases the memory of the horrible dish by the same name you suffered through in Avignon days earlier, After the meal the Chef comes out of the kitchen and you have a conversation about your respective lives and experiences and how this path led you both to be sitting in this restaurant in Antibes on this day; how your dish was prepared and; the secrets he has to making a great paella. You feel connected to someone 5,000 miles from home and laugh and talk for half and hour and just feel like the most important people there "la famille". He was so proud of his signature dish and truly wanted this to be a memorable evening for me and my wife, and it was. While we were eating dessert the owner and chef returned with two bottles of liquor and the most important question of the meal ,,,we have a lemoncello and a green apple liquor will you please try them and let us know which you you think is better. I am not certain which was better but I do know that some days having dinner a block away from your hotel was great decision."

Just happened on the restaurant as it was opening. Must have gotten the last table because it filled up soon thereafter. They specialize in paella and it is with good reason. A steaming hot, large and delicious serving appeared in front of me and soon disappeared. Food is very good, service and prices are reasonable

We ordered Paella Marinera after 30mins’ wait. It wasn’t mind-blowing, but OK. The rice was correctly flavoured, however the fish was bland. Altogether, for the price, it was underwhelming. However, Antibes is not exactly teeming with authentic spanish cooking, so in that sense it’s well worth a try. And who knows, may be we chose the least interesting dish from the menu

As travellers we often find ourselves eating at late hours. I was initially happy to see the late opening hours and we arrived 45minutes before closing time. Unfortunately were received with a lot of attitude saying they won't serve us and that we should reserve in advance if we want to eat late.Sorry I come from a country where businesses respect the opening times they post online and receive their guests with a minimum of good manners .

We have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times now and are going again tonight. There are lots of places to eat in antibes but this little place offers a unique service usually with the chef getting involved with the ordering. They obviously buy in fresh produce and although meet what is on the menu will give you advice on what they have and specialities of the house. You can pre order Paella which is delicious but then so is every thing else. It's authentic honest fresh food and the ambiance is typically Spanish French fusion - if there is such a thing. Booking is advisable. View menu

Came here for Valentine's Day dinner (reserve in advance; the resto was fully booked that evening). I'm vegan, my partner isn't; when we'd called to reserve, we let them know that and offered to make a vegan paella but that it would be for both of us (i.e., my boyfriend couldn't order his own meaty paella, but that wasn't a problem for us). We were served our dish quickly, the owners seemed quite organised that evening. The paella was very yummy, with nice tender veggies, and was definitely a generous portion. The owners were friendly and the restaurant is small/cosy, as so many restos in Antibes are. Happy with the experience.

We make a point of eating in this, our favourite restaurant, when we come to Antibes. Amando and his wife are the owners and he is the chef. He is one of the nicest people you could meet!If you want to order a paella, then please be prepared to wait 40 minutes. This is normal for a freshly cooked paella and by the time you've had your starter etc, it will be ready. We had "black" ham starter, which while relatively expensive at €17, was plentiful and delicious. Our calamari paella was excellent, soft and cooked to perfection.Taking into account the quality, L'Ecureuil Espagnol must be among the best value for money venues in Antibes.Booking is advised.

We went here for dinner.Warm nice welcome The old couple running this restaurant know how to treat theire guestsWe orderd tapas as starter. Sooooo big! I am not a fan of cummin so I didnt fancy the moussels. But its me, not the chef! The escalope was yummi, really yummi. I do not understand tagliatelle to go with it but it was okThe chef (also a nice older man) came to our table to make sure that it was good food and to make sure that it was enough. If you visit Antibes this is a good place to spend an evening, you will feel welcome and leave the restaurant realaxed and with a smile on your face.....and BTW the use Langioleknifes when they serve meat!!! Nothing worked. 1. The tablecloth was dirty when we came, the waitress didn't bother to take it away, instead she just put a clean one on top. 2. We ordered a bottle of Rosé, we only got it in the middle of the main course and only after complaining. 3. The wine was terrible and not even chilled. Warm rosé, never experienced anything like this! 4. We went as a couple, one meal was served 15 minutes before the other one. I had already finished my meal when my wife's meal came. 5. The quality of the food was slightly below average at most. 6. The big salad consisted of a careless mix of vegetables and fruits, without any dressing whatsoever. 7. Service was slow, clumsy, even basics didn't work...

After intending to visit this restaurant for many years, it was always closed or too busy on my visits to Antibes. This time we got lucky on the first Sunday evening they had decided to open for some time. Initially surprised at our 7.30pm reservation revealed us to be the only customers, with even Amandos wife admitting to being unsure of demand on a Sunday. She need not worry as 2 hours later the place was packed. We opted for Tapas, whilst awaiting the creation of our Seafood/Chorizo Paella which was possibly a mistake as we struggled to finish what was a Paella stuffed with ingredients and not just a glorified rice dish, by far the best in our experience. The house rose wine was a little l...

"In this location, surrounded as it is with large restaurants spilling out onto the pavement with their me-too menus of les pizzas and pâtes and overly familiar sounding meals, it is most unexpected to find a bespoke and personal restaurant offering a fine selection of dishes cooked with care. The menu, described appropriately as the 'carte du moment' presents a mercifully small number of seasonal and therefore changing entrées, plats and desserts. However, it is still hard to choose. Each one is enticing, interesting and original with the promise of flavours, combinations of ingredients and textures, without tricks and unnecessary embellishment. For a large number, a selection of all the entrées as share dishes makes a lot of sense. Everyone gets a taste of something and the difficulty of having to choose is avoided. For the plats, a single selection is best with pork, duck, tuna and salmon along with risotto as options on the night we were there. A fine burger also available is perhaps a concession to the location and, actually, a very fine dish. Four desserts are offered with each one tempting and beautifully prepared. Another selection for the table is highly recommended. The wine list is adequate and the ambiance works for lone dining as well as for a larger and more raucous group. The service is smiling and efficient as well as courteous. This is a place to make a favourite. The risk to this reviewer is that it will become deservedly highly popular and impossible for last minute bookings."
