"Every vegan place I’ve found in this area in the last two days has been fast food. This restaurant unfortunately serves meat but has the best “proper” vegan food I’ve come across. Edited: We were in Manchester for four nights and ended up eating here for the last three. Everything was delicious. (Best accompanied by a pot of jasmine tea. I prefer to give my business to vegan and vegetarian establishments but found nothing in the area offering a sit-down vegan meal. Updated from previous review on 2023-10-14"

Ate here last night and ordered dim sum and a main. The salt and pepper chips were pretty basic oven chips and not fresh. My main, I think, had some meat in it

The restaurant had a wide variety of options on their gluten-free menu. The staff were knowledgeable about allergens and were able to provide helpful information.

An unexpected find. In town for work and coworkers decided on this place. Expected to have to explain GF and was instead given an actual GF menu. A limited but varied menu containing appetizers, soups and entrees. View menu

Large menu of vegetarian options, most of which are vegan. We told the wait staff on arrival and were shown the vegetarian list and given a short list of the options that were not vegan. Plenty of choices available, in fact it took a while to choose what we wanted.

The food was delicious, with a great variety of gluten-free options available on a separate menu. The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients, especially when it came to gluten-containing foods. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

One of my favourite restaurants in Manchester, if not full stop! The vegetarian crispy chilli beef is amazing, as is the seaweed and the salt and pepper tofu! Highly recommend! Most of the vegetarian menu is vegan, if you ask the staff, they will provide a small list of those which aren’t vegan View menu

Very traditional Chinese restaurant with a large vegetarian menu (I think mostly vegan). The food was alright but very basic. I was not impressed at all. Even though we were being served by five different people, they still couldn’t get our order right and we had to wait a long time. I would even choose the local Wagamama over this place, next time I want Chinese Asian food in MCR. Updated from previous review on 2022-09-13

Wouldn’t recommend. Overpriced, food didn’t taste great (can get better offerings elsewhere in Manchester). One of the wait staff were also by the far rudest I’ve ever experienced. Felt quite confused by the experience there and spent most of the time trying to figure out if we offended the waitress somehow. Happy to give benefit of the doubt to anyone in hospitality, but this experience was beyond that and frankly made me uncomfortable.

"Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes. We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty. We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it. After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive. Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. If you're a fan of Persian food or perhaps want to try something new then you would genuinely struggle to find such a quality dining experience at this price point."
