"Made a reservation for this place having read reviews on all the top restaurants in Blois and to be fair also only those with a space at 24 hours notice. We had a table upstairs which I would say is not as desirable as at ground level, upstairs the decor is more traditional or perhaps even a bit old-fashioned. Whilst perhaps taking the edge off the experience we were not too bothered as it is all about the food.We ate from the Orangerie set menu at €60 a head and spent about the same on wines by the glass (7) and a bottle of Evian. Although reasonably expensive the wines were nice quality but 75cl Evian for €8 is for me a bit of a liberty. The service was really good with friendly staff who accommodated my terrible French and switched readily to English as required. After canapés and a superb amuse Bouche we "started"with foie gras (disguised as an oversized cherry!) washed down with a molleaux cote du layon which was fabulous. However the star of the show had to be the rack of lamb. Never in my life have I had lamb as tender as this. Until now I have never believed you could eat medium rare meat without using you teeth to chew, I am now a believer! The cheese board was extensive and reasonable for a €5 supplement; the desert refreshing.Well worth a trip if in Blois but look for a table downstairs for a more rounded experience."

Fab Fab Fab, rarely give 5 stars, but the food and ambience were great. As you would expect expensive, but each course was great, superbly served, and a joy to look at as well as eat.

The tasting menu they offer is a real treat. Each dish is perfectly cooked and served. We also appreciated the timing between the dishes - just right. Tip: choose the option with cheese (if you love it, of course), an impressive variety and way of service.

Visited restaurant with my beloved and it was a perfect choice. Location and atmosphere best in the city. If its possible choose a table outside. Perfect food and nice wine list. Thought I didn't like section of bread - it's either too sour, or too hard. Perfect spot for a date. View menu

We did the largest tasting menu (5 or 6 courses) Outstanding flavors and beauty in each dish. Main desserts very good. the small side desserts were so so. Traditional french with larger portions than in the US. Excellent service. When it got chilly outside they moved us promptly inside.

Came here with my husband & best friend for her Birthday, it was a wonderful experience. The service staff was super helpful in explaining menu items & preparation. The entrees (lobster ravioli) was amazing and desserts, cheese plate - WOW! So so good.We were sitting inside and the decor was lovely & very elegant.

Roasted langoustines with tomatoes, but what tomatoes! Sorbet with a concentrated flavour of tomatoes set upon sliced tomatoes of different types. The rest of the meal was fantastic but the entrée was superbe. Served with professional skills and on the terrasse overlooking the rear wall of the chateau. An evening of delightful touches and flavours. View menu

Taking advantage of the Acension Day, we visited Loire Valley for the long weekend. Blois is our final stop and we wanted to treat ourselves to a nice dinner, l'orangerie du Chateau made the list. We took the simple 3-course menu, my starter being frog legs, which is one of a kind. Though the marinates could have made stronger flavors, I valued the overall presentation and its mouth feel in particular. The beef fillet, rare-cooked, is the most tendered meat I have ever had, no greasiness, simply perfect. The soufflé is a bit on the sweet side, but I could eat that everyday. Service was attentive, no long wait between dishes. The restaurant is well-staffed, we were served by 5 maybe 6 differe...

We were four on a 6-day Loire trip and booked lunch at this famous restaurant. The ambiance is elegant, if a bit old-fashioned. But the food had a lovely modern twist to the classic French gourmet cuisine. For instance my starter was a set of 5 small pieces of langoustine, garnished with beets, beautifully presented (and delicious). One of our party had foie gras (stunning presentation), the another had scallops, all excellent. For the mains, two of us asked if we could have something vegetarian, not because we are vegetarians, but as it was lunchtime we wanted a lighter meal. This was kindly accommodated and a perfectly cooked and presented dish of a variety of vegetables was served to us b...

"Assa is located in a nondescript building on the western edge of Blois. Inside, however, the restaurant displays a spare, modern, Japanese-influenced design. The tables are spaciously arranged on two levels giving all of them access to a direct view of the Loire flowing slowly past. The kitchen is open to the restaurant where the two chef-owners can be seen busily creating the meals. The menu has several format options allowing for the selection of different combinations of appetizers, main courses and desserts; the specific menu contents change based on the available produce. The wine list mainly focuses on Loire Valley wines arranged geographically from the Muscadets of the coastal region to the eastern-most Sancerres. It took some time for the server to acknowledge us when we entered, then take our order, because there was only one person serving all the tables. But, once the dinner began, the experience was wonderful. The dishes are among the most inventive and flavorful we have encountered over the years in many other Michelin-starred restaurants. The non-traditional flavor combinations worked extremely well. The two main courses that night—dourade and veal—were spectacular. Assa is a French, not a Japanese, restaurant, but with a Japanese influence in the flavors and the plating of the dishes. All the dishes we sampled were light and fresh without heavy sauces. The menu was written in French only, and the server spoke very little English, but any sophisticated diner with a broad palate will have a wonderful experience by sitting back and letting the courses flow. As each course is small (a few bites), if you are there for dinner, we do suggest choosing the options with most or all of the courses. Sticking to the classic French “formule” of a starter, main course, and dessert, will be fine for lunch, but perhaps too little at dinner. If we return to this region of the Loire Valley, Assa will be first on our list."
