"MIXED REVIEWS for good reason and you would hope the owner would pay attention. 1. Hygiene is not as good as it could be and that is bad for many customers even if staff dismiss it. 2. Customer service us variable. Bad for customers because they want to go somewhere they can rely on for a friendly welcome. 3. Fairness has been questioned. Several customers complain of being watched (too much by staff when using the buffet. We were. This shouldn 't be. It suggests a selfishness by the management. 4. Food quality is mixed... and this is just not acceptable. Food quality must be consistently excellent. Our visit was after a funeral, we were a large Party of 20+, a mix of very old to the very young. We were treated well and the starters were tasty. The buffet wasn 't open when we arrived but opened quickly enough. Standard dahl, potato and spinach curry, chicken curry etc. They were tasty (but as said, we were watched was it to see how many visits? . I have been to other Mirch Masala restaurants, they are pretty standard. I quite like the no frills plain tables, canteen style feeling. You 're there to eat staple Indian food. That 's it. But, as a customer, you want to know that the food is safe and that the environment is clean, and that the management are generous and fair. My hope is that Mitch Masala management read back the many positive and negative reviews and take action to change people 's perceptions so that it only achieves 4* and 5* reviews in future. Will I be back? Yes, for sure (and I 'll be ready to make another detailed review."

Service was not attentive. You are greeted to bottle of water on table is chargeable if opened. Watered down mint sauce. Toilets were flithy. The food was nice although way too oily. The saving grace was the price which was very reasonable

Mirch Masala has had some work done to update it and it looks lovely. We went on a week day for lunch expecting to do the buffet only to find that they no longer offer this-such a shame. So we to ordered from the menu and the food was delicious and the portion size was decent as usual. We would definitely go back.

Wonderful customer service!! Each member of staff we interacted with was a positive experience. They also gave brilliant recommendations for food. We ordered a lot and each item we ordered was worth 5 stars. And atmosphere of the restaurant after all the changes they has been made look fabulous. Thumbs up definitely recommended.

I’m just waiting here for my favourite dish, fish tikka masala, garlic naan and plain rice. I’ve been coming here for over 10 years and still love it as ever. The tandoori dishes are delicious and the curries to die for. Just came back from India and Mirch Masala is so far the only restaurant that measures up! Although it’s a Pakistani cuisine :

I've eaten here and the food was plentiful and nice. The service was lightning quick, actually too quick for a pleasant restaurant experience. Based on my personal experience, I would probably rate it 5 stars. The issue is the restaurant has had shocking food hygiene inspection reports from the council for many years and still not addressed them (the fines they have incurred can be Googled).

I have come here a few times and have really enjoyed the food. On my last visit the food was ok but found myself feeding uncomfortable with staff watching us all the time, while we ate. I also found the other customers were given complimentary poppadoms with their salad. They will have to improve their customer service before I will ever come back again. Also they no longer allow you to bring your own alcohol.

Toilets are a disgrace to humanity. I wouldn’t let me dog use them. When I asked the manager he said that they don’t clean them often because they don’t want people to stay in them for too long. He seemed to think this was hilarious. No wonder they have a 1 star food hygiene rating. Look at the quality of the receipts they gave us. They have no shame and no standards. Which reputable business owner would keep their toilets in the state they do. Disgusting.

Terrible place. AVOID AVOID. My delivery to local area was VERY LATE because they did not have a driver...1st they cancelled my order after 45 minutes. ..then I was angry as I waited 1 hour. Then Delivery was Missing for 2 hours. Food was very cold. had to throw everything in the bin. I had to order different food from elsewhere. Customer Service Manager cannot speak English properly. I read all the reviews. Most of the customers have the same complaint. Do not Believe their FAKE positive reviews which are posted by staff and family friends etc. Disgusting Place. Broken Fork pieces found in Food..

"I hadn't been here since my mother brought me as a teenager in 1965, when it was the Chalet Suisse. We were welcomed by a waitress seeing us coming and opening the door for us, ushered to a table by the window. We both had a fish dish, myself a crab-stuffed fillet of plaice, my wife a seabass paella with mussels. My plaice was succulently fresh, with a subtly spiced filling and sauce, The new potatoes were perfect. My wife is from a fishing family in Brittany so really knows her fish, and her saffron paella met with unconditional approval. The buckshee bread chunks in a basket already on the table were left, so I could enjoy mopping up the last of the lovely flavour of the juice. After polishing off the little extra pot of sweet potato fries, for dessert we had a special, Eton Mess, and banana cream profiteroles, which we swapped half way through, just gorgeous, and a filter coffee to finish off. With a couple of beers all for a fraction over £50 this was extraordinary value. This was no ordinary pub-chain grub. Every dish had something unusual and special to commend it, whether the spicy crab or the tart passionfruit syrup setting off the usually overwhelmingly sweet Eton Mess. This was proper cooking by someone who really knows their stuff, nicely presented but without fuss. Our fellow diners were all friendly and accomodating in a fairly small space, some engaging in jolly conversation with us. The service was attentive, kind. and unobtrusive. There was music but not overly loud and the atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried. I've heard this place mentioned by others before over the years and very much wish we'd made the effort to visit before now, our wedding anniversary. We will go again for sure, and take others with us too!"

"This is a small, very nice, non-chain coffee shop selling tea, coffee, some savoury sandwiches plus snacks and cakes. (Not to be confused with 'Smoothbean ' which is also in Croydon and also very good, but the two have no connection.)What 's good about it? It 's non-chain, so you 're actually dealing with nice people offering good service, not just wage slaves at the front end of a vast, impersonal corporation. The quality of the tea and coffee is as good as anywhere else. The service is warm, human, friendly and personal. The staff are efficient and helpul but also pleasantly informal. They don 't have a very wide selection of things to eat. However, what they DO have is all very nice and good value, whether you want savoury and healthy or sweet and indulgent. I loved the little 'bakesmiths ' cakes they sell that say 'made by hand in small batches ' on the label. What 's maybe not so good? Well, it 's not in what you 'd call a great location. Plus it 's really small. Upstairs (at street level) there are just two small tables and space for maybe five or six people at most (assuming some don 't mind sitting at the window). Downstairs, there are a chairs and sofas providing room for about eight people, although it 's a bit cramped. All in all, the think to love about Crushed Bean is the tone, the atmosphere, the fact that it 's small, friendly and informal and run by human beings rather than branded corporate drones intent on hitting targets. Go there at a not-too-busy time and you can enjoy a little bit of peace and quiet and know that you 're choosing to support a small, independent coffee shop and not one of the behemoth chains. Bonus good point #1: if you ask for your milk on the side, it comes in a miniature milk bottle. This cute touch should be standard practice but isn 't.Bonus good point #2: They offered me a free tea refill. Nowhere else that I 've been to does this.Bonus good point #3: They are right opposite Cake Box, a wonderful emporium of gloriously unhealthy options."
