"6 of us went for the Sunday lunch recently. We were all impressed by the value for money and the portion sizes. However there were a couple of things that took the shine off the experience. The man serving the meals didn't have great customer service skills, the meals were covered on gravy rather than it being served separately in a jug and the mashed potatoe had huge lumps in it. Despite everyone in the room we were in eating there was sport on the TV which ruined the atmosphere for us. I wrote a review on social media (Not even mentioning the mash or the man serving) and was surprised by the response. Whoever wrote the response blamed me for the points I highlighted saying I should have asked for the gravy in a jug and could have eaten in a different room to get away from the TV. As this was our first visit to the pub for food I have no idea how I would know I had these options ! The food is plentiful, it's very cheap but it's not great customer service during or after visiting . Not sure we will be returning which is a shame."

Listened to this band on a Saturday night surprisingly good, bit loud but good night out. Good atmosphere, eclectic mix of people.

I had my wedding reception at this restaurant and the staff were amazing. They were very accommodating and went above and beyond to make our day special.

"I am the pickiest eater in the world, but nothing was too much trouble for them. I ordered the BBQ chicken in a baguette with chips and the staff were helpful. The food was amazing and I will definitely be back."

We used the Roast dinner delivered service from the Newton pub in Dalton yesterday. 6 dinners delivered to the hungry staff while we were at work on a 13 hour shift. We can't fault it. Mixture of veg. Loads of meat mash and roast potatoes. Yorkshire pudding and loads of gravy all separate so you could built your own roast. Delivered for when we wanted it and was piping hot when we got it. Thanks for saving the day Newton pub but we were so **** full after it. No pictures sorry as we were too hungry and it didn't touch the sides hahah

I ordered a Sunday lunch from this restaurant and was very pleased with the delivery service provided during our prolonged lockdown. The food arrived promptly, within 10 minutes of the estimated time, and was still hot. The portions were generous and the meat was tender and flavorful. The vegetables were a bit overcooked, which is understandable given the delivery process. Each meal was packaged in three containers, along with a separate large portion of gravy. The restaurant, Newton, is currently operating as Dial and Dine, with nightly specials available for order on Facebook. While the experience was pleasant, I am looking forward to being able to dine out again in the near future.

"We visited our old favourite Hartley’s again this evening for only the second time in 2023. We always have a lovely time here but we are guilty sometimes of forgetting just how good the food is! To put it into context we have become “foodies” over the last few years having been spoiled by annual trips to France and a few Michelin Star experiences in the UK. Tonight we went back to the fabulous friendly and laid back experience that epitomises our favourite local restaurant, Hartley’s. From the minute we walked in, it was the usual friendly welcome and banter and wow was the food “on point”. Mrs D had the bruschetta freeing me to have the Squid and both were fabulous. Let’s be honest I don’t really like salad, but the one they do with the squid I could happily just eat on its own and with the pickle it so complements the subtle taste of the squid. For mains I had the sublimely balanced gammon with cream sauce, poached egg potatoes and cabbage. How well each element complements one another, The better half enjoyed the Seabass, which from my shared forkful was equally lovely. I had the delicate rhubarb and ginger crumble for pud while the missus had STP. All washed down with a lovely Chilean Merlot! What a fabulous evening! I said to JD “sometimes we do forget just how good this place is” 5 stars tonight only because I couldn’t give 6!"
