"We would gladly give The Ninth Wave out of Stars if we could In I was looking for a restaurant to give my wife the best meal of her life for her birthday. And while we had to wait for her birthday due to the pandemic, The Ninth Wave did not let us down. We had the special treat of Johnny as part of the wait staff, because he allowed one of his staff to go on vacation to Iceland during the season! Catriona was delightful as his co-server, always taking time to remind us of what we had chosen for each course. And you cannot say enough about the magic that Carla and her co-chef George worked with the fresh produce from Johnny's garden and the sea Incredible people, incredible food. You will not be disappointed, you will be awestruck!"

Brilliant place, fine sea foods, well presented and extremely tasty. Had a great dinner her. Booking essential but they also have a waiting list to take a chance on. Overall really nice restaurant.

If you get the opportunity go and enjoy lunch at Carla Lamont's lovely little restaurant. The fish depends what John catches and Carla's take on local produce and foraged food and inspiration from her travels. Absolutely superb service too. View menu

This has to be one of the finest restaurants in the Hebrides. It specialises in seafood but does the most delicious, imaginative vegetarian food I have ever eaten. Beautiful location and great service. Perfect treat for our Isle of Mull holiday. Highly recommended.

Absolutely a must visit for lunch. The presentation and attention to detail are spot on. Caral explains the thought behind every course and the history of the produce on the plate. This was our 2nd visit and again were blown away by the taste sensation. Simply superb.

A wonderful restaurant in a beautiful location. Fantastic, creative food based around excellent local ingredients (some from the croft itself and so stunningly presented! We had a truly memorable night and would highly recommend booking a table here, we drove over an hour each way to get there and it was well worth it! Thanks so much Carla and the team! View menu

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to and certainly the best on Isle of Mull. It was such a taste journey; a really exciting experience. The fish dishes were the highlights. The lobster with the wonton was heavenly and the salmon courgette flower left us speechless. Even the cocktails were ultra special with a homemade banana marshmallow which was like nothing I have ever tasted before. Finally the sticky toffee pudding and parfait were divine. Everything from start to finish was magical. Thank you Carla and team.

We were lucky enough to find this wee place and get a table on a recent visit to Mull. Wow! This was a unique dining experience. The four courses were exquisite and it was so hard to choose between them. The photos show only how beautifully presented they were but they can’t convey the depth of flavour that was packed into each mouthful or the quality of the ingredients and cooking. John and Carla have created something really magical here and it was a treat to be served by the man himself. Haute cuisine without a shred of pretension. A rare find! Go!

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"

"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."
