"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"

We had the good fortune of dining here during our 4day trip to Islay. The food was excellent. My husband enjoyed the burger and I liked my fish. Service was good, drinks were well poured.

My family and I had a fantastic meal at this restaurant. The food was exceptional and they had no issue accommodating gluten-free dietary restrictions. The servings were large and delicious.

I'd really like to rate it more it has a great view and great staff, but after a seafood chowder that was 50% potato and 15% celery, and then a rare steak done medium well, well what can you say ...

The best hotel to visit in Islay. Food, drink and best of all the staff! Full hotel was very clean and the food was simply delicious. Will definitely be back. Thank you to the lovely staff at Lochside! Would definitely recommend!

Lovely restaurant, excellent views across Loch Indaal. Get a window seat if you can. Unsurprisingly the seafood is particularly good whether prawn and langoustine starter, scallops as catch of the day, or grilled sea bass. Desserts also really good. Good wines, excellent range of whiskies. Will return.

We had a great experience at this restaurant. The food and service were excellent. The location overlooking the loch was superb. The staff were very accommodating and managed to seat all 8 of us even though the restaurant was full. We were impressed with the selection of dishes available, and everything was served promptly. Our family of 8 left very satisfied. Thank you.

The restaurant is situated by the lake, offering a pleasant setting even during rainy weather. The young staff were attentive and provided ample portions of well-cooked scallops served with chips and a side salad topped with half a boiled egg. The desserts, a peculiar pavlova and a Bunnahabhain cake, were disappointing, with the pavlova being removed from the bill. A 10% service charge was added, but we were given the option to decline. Overall, we likely wouldn't return to this restaurant.

"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."
