"We fancied a mid week treat for tea out so checked Trip Advisor for somewhere new. Although not local to us (we live in Ferrybridge) the reviews looked amazing so thought we'd try it out. To be honest, being a picky eater, I was slightly...dubious. We were welcomed by the friendly waiting staff who were more than happy to make sure we were sat where we felt most comfortable. The menu had a small but good variety and the specials board was mouth watering to read. The hubby ordered scampi from the menu and I ordered the special haddock with prawns in garlic and lemon sauce. The food came and the portions were huge! Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his and mine was amazing. The haddock was so fresh and just fell apart. The potatoes and vegetable sides were also freshly made and were really tasty. We are now super stuffed! Since leaving I have messaged all of our friends to visit this hidden gem. Needless to say, we will definitely be back "

Been there times now on different days over the last two months. The food was gorgeous every time. Service was efficient and the personal touch of a chat with Micheal each visit made it that bit better. Keep it up. You are doing an...awesome job. We will be back!!

We visited here for the first time yesterday. (My mum, son and I) The venue is beautiful, really cosy and welcoming. The staff were friendly and also welcoming. Our orders were taken quickly and food arrived promptly. Presentation was great and it tasted absolutely gorgeous!...We didn’t go for full meals as it was a little bit pricier than we had anticipated, however, we really really enjoyed our visit and will return for a treat again in the future. Thank you

the first time since the pandemic and the pleasure to return. friends and family of sheffield barnsley and ossett. the food was as good as I visited last and remember a lot of it, cooked freshly and meael the cook came out to talk about our food. michaels passion for eating is definitely seen and costly and is highly recommended. we also took a pudding place. so glad that we will be back soon and look forward to another excellent meal in nostalgic kitchen. a hidden gem View menu

I was dreaming of a roast dinner (including Yorkshire puddings) and commented to my partner that I didn't have much hope being Coeliac. I was proved so wrong at the Shepherd Inn. I had the three meat dinner that came with a massive Yorkshire. Totally...made up. The meal was delicious, chunky veg and roast parsnips with yummy mash...and strawberry cheesecake (as a take away). Far too full by then. My partner had beef and ale pie and said it was so good, especially the pastry. The staff were lovely too. Really helpful with my gluten free questions, always happy to check. Would thoroughly recommend and will be returning :

good home cooked menu. we all ordered something different and all the meals were excellent. to divide the veg that was plentiful. only a little bit, spruten were a little soft prefer them quite firm. a nice note that the cook visited the tables to check everything was good. beautiful environment would be nice if this huge camein was illuminated! they will not go to home hungry from here, as portioning sizes are extremely generous. I would have loved a good old traditional pudding and custard, but I was just too full! this place is just for everyone who loves traditional home cooked food that has a healthy appetit! what is not to like!

a friend and I visited wakefield and decided to eat here on the basis of other trip advisor recommendations. we were not disappointed. that was raised. I had the shiny beef and my friend had fish. side contain chips, maic, green beans, carrots and red cabbages. everything was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. the chips were particularly remarkable, super chunky, really crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. we had both reispudding for dessert, which was absolutely fantastic. can't blame for eating at all. the chef came out to chat with us, which was a nice note. the employees were all nice and the wainwright’s was well kept everything in everything, a great experien... We went last night as a party of Our friends His wife had booked by phone a week earlier. We arrived to be told they had no record of our booking, our friend who had called even had to repeat her phone number...when making the call to book. The staff had no idea how to handle the situation. This is not the first time it's happened to us. Similar occurred a couple of years ago. Whenever you call they're clearly not organised. Regularly they answer with I just need to go get a pen. Surely as a business when your calls are either for table bookings or orders for takeaway you'd have pen paper. We've visited a number of times over the years but certainly won't be attempting to go as a group again...

After looking at the many great reviews of this place we were looking forward to visiting for my daughters birthday, and were not disappointed! We had the drunken lamb special which was tender and tasty, and my daughter had the meat plate which was...great too, perfectly cooked with real traditional chips cooked in beef dripping and accompanied by lots of veg. For desert we had Bilberry pie that I haven't had since I was a kid, with yummy vanilla custard. The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. The beer was draught Wainwrights which was very good too! The only minor downside was there was no heating on so it was cold, some people kept their coats on while eating. However this...
