"It's a shame, fairly good location central Cov not far from old cathedral, nice chic-shabby decor, reasonable waiter service, biggish wine list.....food very disappointing. The Homemade fish pie is bland, possibly made with job lot' frozen fish pieces. A fish pie ain't a fish pie without smoked haddock and I have ordered this dish on a couple of occasions sadly no smoked fish....all this topped by a sad slushy dollop of mash. The salads named on the menu are not what you will get on your plate...on this occasion my house salad lacked main ingredients. My partner ordered the pasta with a basil and tomato sauce. The tomato sauce had a grey tinge to the dull ruddy sludgy sauce. The reason...read more"

Burger was so tough, like eating a shoe. Slow service, depressing music.

New Ownership. As of of March Playwrights Cafe Bar and Bistro will be under new ownership. We will be keeping the same traditional style Bistro menu with a few updates. Hopefully the fish pie wont be bland' and the burgers wont be like rubber'!

Mexican experience. recently I went to playwrights for his Mexican night, which takes place once a month on a Saturday. the place was packed and the atmosphere was fantastic with great food. the menu was surprisingly authentic, made with all directed to home. energetic, friendly staff and a lot of tequilla! we have booked for the next new one. definatly one to recommend.

where do I start? if they want to watch the personal to run like headless chickens in a atmosphere of total chaos obviously no one of the workers are trained asking them for the same item more than once and never get it, finally ending with fat eating and then when they come to pay, there is no recording of their order then playwrights is definitiw the place for them has survived. customer care nil. quality of the food.

playwrights. went to playwrights with friends from the usa. the new owner (nicola went out to buy 10 of us. the service was excellent and eat first class and delivered all about the same time. all ask to the menu were courteously answered and because we had brought friends from the usa, we got a free round drinks. nicola then went on to tell us about her plans for the bar and even took on board comments we made. she seems to have really ambitious and I wish her all good for the future. in these difficult times it is good to see a young girl who has a small business. good luck to you.
