"This is intended as a neutral, purely factual review. Good points the one meal we had during our 2 day stay was excellent and the room was basic but comfortable. Bad points closed for meals on Sunday evening even for residents, closed all day Wednesday and no cooked breakfast until 10am on any day. We were on a boating trip on the Oxford Canal, needing a room and meals on the Sunday and Tuesday evenings in that location, where there’s nowhere else to stay. Some things had gone wrong during our stay and we appreciated being offered in compensation wine and desserts free of charge with our evening meal on the Tuesday. However, we had to spend £37 in taxi fares to find a Sunday evening meal in Deddington, only 2 miles away and we were unable to have cooked breakfasts during our stays, as we had to depart before 10am on the Monday morning and the hotel was completely closed on the Wednesday morning. For us, cooked breakfasts are a big part of the pleasure of staying away, as we never have them at home. Overall we found this hotel unsatisfactory and we would not recommend it as somewhere to stay. When it’s open, the restaurant is good. Rooms: 3 Service: 2 Location: 4"

"Nice little restaurant, however service wasn't great, chicken terrine was difficult to identify as being chicken, fish a little overcooked, steak very bland and could have done with a choice of accompanying sauces food was just ok. Wine was served in some kind of plastic carrier bag which leaked water all over the table that needs a rethink!"

"Well I've been meening to go here for a long time as I've heared so much about the place so decided to give it a try and took my better half. Staff where very polite and said it would be about half hour for a table but was seated within 15 minutes our order was taken and food arrived not long after and was amazing quality and enjoyed every last bit. Then desert was just as amazing, if i could put more then 5 stars i would great place, great staff and great food and at a very good price so will definitely be going again very soon. Thanks all for a lovely evening."

"About 25 years ago my family and I used to own the Unicorn. Since we sold it, it has changed hands a number of times. The current landlords, Den Cheryl, are doing an amazing job with the place and the atmosphere is lovely and welcoming. We had occasion to have a family do in there this weekend and they really looked after us brilliantly. Keep up the good work!"

"We stumbled upon this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. We had dined in the area before but wanted to try something different. The menu had a limited selection of 5 options for each course, which was perfect for us. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. Although there was a slight delay between our main course and dessert, it gave us time to relax and we did not feel rushed. The restaurant was moderately busy on this Sunday afternoon. The only small issue was that our reservation wasn't recorded, but we were still warmly greeted and it did not affect our experience at all."
