"One of the greatest merits of the managers of the Puppola is to have brought in Valsassina what before was not: the Tuscan cuisine, in Moggio, then, here in Barzio, the quality cocks and burgers made with meat of Chianina breed. In both cases the restaurants have been rashly located at frequent recreational/ sports. Also a third place, which I promise to try next, was opened in Varenna in a highly panoramic position, evident fruit of an accurate choice. Here we came in the wake of the previous experiences at the Puppola di Moggio (currently called Taverna Pane and Wine not to confuse it with the new premises) but above all because my wife was attracted by the ****, that middle way between a chick and a chicken that, like the least young will remember, until mid-1980s was called “amburghese” by the company that raised them in Valchiavenna. Following a trade dispute, the producer had to change the denomination in Galletto Vallespluga, a brand that in a short time became equally well known thanks to a hammering advertising campaign. The “pollastrello” here served is the Galletto Vallespluga, whose popularity has become a reason for publicizing in the panel placed outside the restaurant. After having booked it, as necessary, the ****, served in a plate with multicoloured decorations, seems pleasant but it turns out a little dry and dry: it is the reason why I preferred to make a different choice, orienting me on the few alternatives proposed in this place. Indecident among the bruschettes and the burger, in the end I choose the latter without conviction, memorous of the mediocrity of the famous sandwiches of MacDonald. In fact, I was served an inviting high quality dish much higher than my expectations. The meat is excellent: good taste, perfect cooking, right amalgam with complementary ingredients and, surprise, even fries are not the usual frozen product, sometimes mal fried in recycled oil, but tasty potatoes cut into slices and fried to perfection. A good fiaschetto of Chianti a half liter accompanies the whole. In short, my impression is that the galletto is only advisable for lovers of the genus, while the Chianina meat burger is recommended to anyone, even if disappointed by the widespread and mediocre meat served everywhere. Sure, here you spend something more but it's worth it. The prices, also of the wines, are clearly displayed on the website: very appreciable, as well as the prohibition of entry for dogs that indispects some customers, but which is appreciated by the majority."
