"The location is actually worth the trip with the little train that takes you from the town of Chamonix ,at meters of altitude ,right on top of La Vallee' Blanche ,the superb glacier where you actually can also ski . The Ancient refuge.. has been perfectly refurbished ,it's warm ,rustic ,cosy and has a lot of character . The menu is very mountain food , deer terrine or wild boar stew , lots of melted cheeses served with cold cuts from the area , this is the rustic food from Savoie ...Quite heavy but tasty. Our fois gras terrine was very good served with a fig compote and very good bread .The snails ,unfortunately needed more flavour ,no salt ,garlic cut in pieces too big and dry sauce ...what a pity ...If you order cafe' gourmand be aware that you won't get a coffee with your small selection of desserts ... Apparently you have to order it on the side and pay another euros .Where is the coffee then ? Just call it tiny selection of desserts but the nice waiter said : sorry business is business .I would add : people are not stupid ,as we might go back but won't order it again . Good young service and the view from the closed veranda pays it all ."

We came here after a long walk up from Chamonix, the views alone are rewarding and the excellent service and food make a trip up here even more worth while. You can get the train up if you don't fancy walking, we got the train...down as we ate and drank a little too much! I would highly recommend a visit View menu

Take the train du Montenvers Mer de Clace, this transfer is already an eperience itself. When arrived at the end station, a great view over the Mer du Glace and the valley is breathtaking. The stylsh Mountain hotelrestaurant is a great place for a cheese...fondue and or Raclette. Dinner is difficult, because no train is going down any more.

The restaurant itself is well situated with magnificent view on the montagne. Food is just good and service seems to be disorganized. After one hour waiting for the food (tartiflette) which was burnt on the top! When we complain, we heard the answer: “it is...not my fault, I’am sorry, what do you want more, that I kneel in front of you!!” That is shame!! A part from this, drink and food is too expensive.

Our daughter had had her wedding reception in the Hotel eleven years ago. My wife and I decided to go for lunch. After a ride in the mountain railway we got to Montenvers above the now receding glacier. The hotel is rustic and the restaurant...reflects this style. The menu contains many Savoyard dishes. I had a fondue while my had a trout and then helped herself to my fondue. We had an excellent bottle of local wine. Everybody around us seemed to be enjoying themselves. View menu

I used to love this place. Hadn't been there for a few years, so was really looking forward to it. Big disappointment. It used to be very special, it has turned into an overpriced average restaurant. The chicken was dry and overcooked. The other dishes...tasted like canteen food. The tartare was (very) good though. The café gourmand used to be fabulous. It is now a euros (because they charge the cafe on top of the café gourmand!! assortment with a watery non-espresso espresso and bits of dried cakes around it. Pathetic. Obviously, the view is still breathtaking and the service was efficient and friendly. But overall, it was an overpriced disappointing experience. Keep walking!

Breakfast: Typical French buffet breakfast nicely done. Croissant, breads, fruit, ham, cheese, yogurt and granola. The croissant were some of the best I've ever had. The homemade granola was burnt. Everything else was very good. Lunch: We only ate lunch here one time. We had...the burgers which were not very good. Pre-formed patties with not a lot of flavor. Nice bun and the fries were good. Expensive for what it was. Dinner: We had dinner two evenings, on a half-board plan with our room. It was good to very good both nights. The first night we had roast chicken which was well cooked. I had coq au vin the second night which was just ok. My partner has sausages which he loved. Service was ver...
