"We moved to Munich a year ago and have tried a number of French restaurants since then. This one provides the best value for money so far.We went there on a whim, having just finished an extended shopping spree in the city centre. Thankfully, the waiter managed to get us a table - the rest of the restaurant was fully booked. At 17:15. So, yes, Rive Gauche is popular. And rightfully so. The ambience is very nice, with dark woods dominating. The background music was a soothing, albeit eclectic, mix of French, German and English chanson style music. For the record, the waiter is an excellent singer, piano player, and he managed to whistle every tune, too. Now, the food. The menu is small, as is the pantry kitchen. Not exactly live cooking, but probably the closest to it you will get short of putting the stove in the middle of the restaurant. We went for a paté, rabbit with pasta and mushrooms, a cheese platter, and a chocolate cake. Accompanied by Augustiner Dunkles, and French cidre. Everything was simply delicious. Prices are moderate, especially given the quality of the food served. Overall, we would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes French cuisine (but not nouvelle cuisine, or the high-fat variety). Serving sizes are French, too, ie about 30% of what you would get in the US. Seriously good stuff all around. Chapeau!"

A quaint little restaurant tucked away behind the old uni hospital offers authentic fayre. I tried the tarte tatin au boudin noir et pommes, my friends loved their canard confit!

Kitchen is smaller than the bathrooms, amazing they can put out all those fine meals! Wild boar country pate, herbs were just great. Pumpkin soup finished with a litter vinegar. Mains were breast of Guinea fowl, pork loin in plum sauce. All well done.

I had dinner with my boyfriend here. The place is small and nice, the tables are too near each other for being romantic.Service is terribly slow, no english menu at all.Food is fine, but quite expensive. my duck was over cooked.Wine selection is fine. View menu

the menu is not very extensive and changes often, which is a sign that food is cooked fresh (and not taken out of a freezer) and seasonal products are used. Service was lovely, food was excellent (tried the rabbit pate and the chocolate cake, for example), everybody on my table was very happy. Also excellent choice of wine.

This place was recommended by a friend of a friend. Four of us were on business and tried a few restarants in Munich. This is an unassuming restaurant and charmingly French. The owner speaks perfect English and translated all the French meals written in German on the board. We all had 3 courses and drinks and everyone was delighted with the food. We will return.

We had just landed from overnight trip and it was early evening in Munich. We walked several blocks around our hotel and came upon this place. Small place but had a really cool vibe coming from its open windows and street side tables. The owner spoke English and welcomed us in... The food and atmosphere was perfect! It not german food obviously but I would still recommend it! Wine list was impressive. View menu

Thanks for a wonderful evening! Most French restaurants in Munich tend to go all upscale and mainstream. The Rive Gauche makes you experience a true French brasserie in the city of Munich: the owner is proud of his establishment and takes pride in basic but freshly and well prepared food, prices are reasonable and the vine list is not targeted to guests with a large expense account (nothing wrong with having one but not on the weekend).

We eat at Rive Gauche almost every week. I was hesitant to review it as it is small, and I didn't want it to get too crowded. Too late, everyone is in on the secret. The food is always amazing. Every time we eat here we comment on how consistently good the food is. The menu is small, changing sporadically, and always interesting. The Morteau Wurst, rabbit, lamb, veal, as well as any of the other offerings, especially the pâtés and foie gras, are all authentically French and outstanding. If you're looking for a tasty change in Munich, you must try Rive Gauche! But please, don't tell anyone else.

"Indian restaurants are becoming almost as ubiquitous in Munich as Italian restaurants lately, or so it would seem. So why did I give this one get 5 stars? In part because Yelp doesn't allow for half star ratings and I didn't feel right giving four after my wonderful dinner experience there and the excellent meals my guy has had there before me. Kamasutra is close to his work and we had dinner here after him and work friends raved about this place for lunch. They've only been open for about three months but it's a regular lunch stop for them now. One thing I noticed early on, they do not take shortcuts. Great care is put into food and service. The menu is varied, good selection of wine and cocktails too. Service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. The interior is more modern and sleek than most Indian resto's. But what about the FOOD? We were in curry heaven. I had a jumbo shrimp curry and he had a chicken vindaloo. Sauces for both were rich, had complex, nuanced flavors and were not greasy or oily. And when they say spicy, they mean spicy, so for those of you lamenting the lack of proper spice level, make your way here NOW. If you don't want your curry toned down for the German palate, do have some here. Lovely garlic naan, very generous serving of good basmati. Delicious mango cream for dessert and real chai that wasn't syrupy sweet. Kamasutra is a real gem and a welcome addition to Munich."
