"Location: The oldest inn in Nördlingen is the Red Ochse. The three-storey gable was built in the core around 1273 and renovated in 1682. One also found a wall in the building, which is part of the old city wall, which once formed the small protective ring around the city. Another sensation is that the building is a stone house, which was previously reserved only to rich people and the authority. The historic inn is located directly on the Baldinger Tor. Parking in front of the city wall is sufficient. Ambience: The rooms offer space for 70 people in a historic ambience. Tile flooring, a revolving bench, heavy upholstered chairs and pictures on the walls, make everything seem natural. On the tables blue middle blankets, salt and pepper shakers, beer lid and a vase with spring art flowers. The tables are already covered with paper napkins and cams. Service: We are greeted by strong boss or Chef des Gasthauses. The first orders are accepted by him, later the son of the house takes over. This does not wear specially selected clothes and is not very careful or even engaged. Food: There are plenty of good bourgeois dishes, which are offered daily on performers. The map has other regional specialities to offer from products from the region. Everyone finds something here. Salads or vegetables, wild from local forests, meat of animals from natural rearing, defensive bread times and smoked sausage. We ordered the following dishes on the advice of the boss. Pork roast with dumplings and sauce 10.90€ and pork chop from squirrel with herbal crust, potatoes and salad. There was a large piece of frying with tied sauce and a semmelknödel. The crust sometimes so hard that you couldn't eat it. All right. Unfortunately, the dumplings did not make themselves. The chop is big but the crust completely burned. The meat probably through the acorns is mostly very fat and dry in the middle. The potatoes are well cooked and tasting. Salad consisting of leaf salad, carrots, white herbs, peppers and onions. The Vinaigrette vinegar. The leaf salad probably from the bag, the white herb with a lot of cumin, the patrol with onion rings was also not to my taste. The carrots were fine. We were somewhat disappointed that not everything was on the plate without artificial aromas. Conclusion: Unfortunately for us no striking taste experience from the crater, as the advertising it offers"

friendly and quick service. we were registered with 16 people for dinner. the menu was very diverse. all the dishes were good and plentiful. very recommended.

After a nice greeting, I ordered roast potatoes with fried eggs. What a mistake was. 70 per cent was bacon, 10 per cent onions and only 20 per cent potatoes, which would actually be the main thing. In addition, the high price for my whole 4 part family was €56.

on the basis of the good reviews, we selected the "red ochsen". the meat, the carrots and the grillworst all had the same oily taste. everything was bathed in fat/oil. to the partially really inviolable! the toilets are simply disgusting. the only positive was the friendly service.

the economy looks a bit old-baked but also very authentic. the menu is huge. hardly imagines that everything is freshly cooked. but my calf with semmelknödel was definitiw fresh and qualitatiw very high quality. really good meat, spicy sauce and self-made dumplings. good bourgeois kitchen with friendly service and good portions.

eating is versatile and very good. where else there is a wild chopped roast, which also tastes clearly after reh. on the map are courts such as leber and other day dishes that you do not otherwise find in this quality. the only manko is the ancient facility and the material flowers. the prices are appropriate to eating, but not to ambiente.

My fiance and I stopped overnight in Nordlingen last year as we were riding up the Romantic Road and we were looking for a traditional German restaurant for dinner.We found Rotor Ochse on trip advisor and it was a short walk from our hotel.Walking in, we were initially concerned we had made a mistake as we were the only customers, the decor seemed a little dated and the waiter was in a football shirt!Our concerns were totally unfounded however as the waiter, the owner/chef's son, was very friendly and happy to explain the specials in English (English version of main menu provided).I ordered Bauernpfanne mit kartoffelspalten, wurst and about 6 other ingredients I could not understand..lol Bas...
