"Dined here for a late lunch (about 2 pm) and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service. This is a family run establishment and they operate it with pride. We had the Maultaschen special with a sauce of Pfifferling mushrooms and a salad, coffee, cake, mineral water and beer, as well as a childrens dish of spaetzle with gravy. The total bill was 52 Euros (2 adults, 1 child). The service was efficient and friendly, despite the inside dining room being very full with a large group. They have beer garden seating also. The same menu and pricing applies but you have to order and pick up your food at a window outside. The restaurant is located just below "Schloss Lichtenstein", which by itself is worth a visit. Parking is available for 2 Euros in front of the restaurant and free overflow parking is about 500 m down the hill."

We parked up and paid Euros for the day and then went on to walk around the Schloß Lichtenstein grounds, after which we decided to have something to eat. We elected to sit down in the restaurant and luckily we found a table for..

The menu has frequent daily specials; today's special, weisswurst burger, had by my brother-in-law was tasty. Also had a dessert, and hot beverages. My wife and I had wurst with traditional spatzle and lentils. All was good. A bit more pricey than I would have liked though.

I was a bit reluctant, based on the reviews, but the timing was perfect for lunch. Very pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent they had lunch specials with fresh white asparagus, which were outstanding. Further, the size was larger than expected. The price was slightly.. View menu

This little cafe next to the castle is simply perfect. Possibly my judgement is impaired based on my love for the simple German potatoes-sausage type of kitchen and the fact that I was hungry and freezing after seeing the inside of the castle. Still, good prices, big portions and cozy atmosphere.

The Altes Forsthaus up the path seemed too fancy and small inside and the beer garden was not being used, so I went to this more family-oriented place (but with its own beer garden, of course). The menu ranged from cheap snacks to full meals in the €10-20 range. The Maultaschen I got were not the dumpling-style that I'd had before but instead chunks of sausage each in its own omelette. Tasty, and served with a big potato and greens salad, all for about €11. So does quite well for a cafeteria at a family attraction.
