"Although I have to bow to the superior experience of the reviewer below, I have to say the experience of our visit to the Drei Königen earlier this week was almost the opposite. Six of us (a mixed party of English and Germans) utilised this...corner restaurant after visiting the Ratingen Christmas market. The restaurant was quite busy due to the market being in place and we were seated at the far end of the back room away from the bar. But despite being at the back the service levels from the friendly hard working waiter could not be faulted and the food was served promptly and was very good. And I know cost is relative but at Euro’s for a party of six , which included of Alt Beer at a glass , I did not consider this expensive at all, especially when comparing to the a party of had cost me in a Paris restaurant earlier this month. I can only report as I find, and I found this a good dining experience and wouldn’t hesitate to try again when back in Ratingen."

I have twice dined at the Drei Koenige with colleagues and have been consistently delighted with the high standard of food and service. The menu is principally traditional German fare, prepared and served to a very high standard indeed. It combiners the culinary standards of...a high class restaurant with the down-to-earth atmosphere of a good traditional Kneipe. Whether in search of a good meal or liquid bonhomie you the Drei Koenige will not disappoint.

I visited Zu den Drei Königen on a Sunday in March. I was traveling on business and dined alone. I ordered the Rumpsteak with Kräuterbutter. The waiter did not ask how I wanted it cooked, and I didn't think about it until the meal came...out and the steak was too rare for my taste. The friendly waiter gladly took it back to the kitchen and had it cooked a little longer. The meal was very good, and the Weißbier I had was the perfect compliment to the meal. I would recommend this restaurant and would also return.

I'm a regular to the Ratingen Marktplatz, and to the Café/Restaurants that face it, so this isn't a reactionary rant to a particularly poor experience. Fact is, I would have always been happy to recommend the Drei Königen to others, but over the last...year or so the experience of visiting this establishment has worsened so much, that I no longer go there. Of the establishments on the Marktplatz (the others being Ratstubchen, Löwe am Markt and the Frankenheim) the Drei Königen easily ranks last. Plus points: plenty of room/seating. Good toilet facilities and a baby changing table (a rarity for Ratingen). Bad points: expensive. Slow service. Forgetful and usually unfriendly staff. Incorrect o... View menu

Smiling and welcoming German staff. Menu in English. Pages of local German cuisine along with local beers and Killepitsch to finish. Sometimes when you are travelling, it's hard to get away from international cuisine and food chains sometimes, you want to eat and drink...like a local and enjoy the ambience. A hundred and one things to do with potatoes, pork and cabbage as well as other specialities. The staff were really helpful and described and recommended dishes. I went for a dish which comprised of: sauerkraut, pork chop, local sausage, potatoes cubes fried in onion, garlic and herb and a huge hunk of pork knuckle. All washed down with Schofferhofer Heffe Weise and Killipitsch I avoided...
