"We arrived early due to journey time so we went to see if we could check in early, we were told we could not check in early (which we did not expect) but wanted to leave our luggage for later on so that we could go and have a look around the local areas, we were told that they could not do this due to not having any storage area. Check in time finally arrived and 3 of the party went to check in and were told that they had to pay £100 gold fee against your room for damages and as the bar do not accept cash or card payments after 11pm. We were not told of this and neither were the bride and groom. On going to our room it was noted that the key for my elderly grandfather did not work after numerous attempts of going up and down the stairs, (lift was broken and in the process of being fixed) On entering our rooms they were the same near enough. After the rest of the party checked in it was brought to light that they did not even pay a fraction of the price that we paid on checking in. That evening came when we went to one of the parties room and it was noted that the air conditioning was not actually working (digital) this was reported the following morning early,, but after numerous attempts to then be told it will be fixed, but for now we can offer you some more fans (Already had 2) that evening they still had not received any information about the air con so we went to reception to ask to be told it will not be fixed until Tuesday, at which point the room was 26 degrees. Another fan was offered but this was declined. They are not ones to make a fuss but this was not acceptable as all other rooms had air conditioning apart from there’s. Nothing was done to reimburse having to stay in a boiling hot room. Breakfast was lovely, catering for allergies which is cooked fresh, thank you chefs. Housekeeping lovely and clean but please pay attention to bathroom corners. Bar staff, thank you for your prompt service during our stay. Receptionist please use your manners (don’t apply to all) it’s not the customers fault if things don’t work, down to Maintenance."

A great vegan menu including desserts, very impressed. Had the risotto and sticky toffee pudding. Staff were lovely and friendly. Would certainly return if in the area.

This 4 star review is for the restaurant not the hotel room. The menu was varied and offered a good selection for vegans and vegetarians. Staff in the restaurant and bar were very helpful and friendly.

We were here for a wedding. Reception and bar etc is modern and new. Bedroom was large but old fashioned and in desperate need of updating. The lifts are creaky and old. Receptionist was helpful and friendly. Good choice at breakfast. Black pudding was very rubbery.

Nice … BUT ….. The menu is nice but in my view a little limited, not cheap…. The steak was however perfect, but at this price point the chips being extra was a surprise and they were not even made from fresh potatoes…. 99% sure they came from the freezer…. Also the ice cream for desert had chunks of ice in it, often a sign of a lower quality . So nice food but given the expected standard…. Didn’t impress …. View menu

Disappointing experience. We visited the hotel restaurant and as non-residents, we were restricted to eat in the conservatory area which consists of comfy chairs and low tables- not the best dining experience. I ordered the pasta which was not cooked well and my partner had the buttermilk chicken burger which he liked. The drinks took forever to arrive, we were already halfway through our meal before they were served. The environment was really nice so it was a shame that our experience was not more positive. It wasn’t a particularly busy night

We stayed here 21st of September, we had a wedding package for six people. We upgraded our room to the Ash Suite and I would definitely recommend doing this as it was a lovely spacious room with a spacious balcony and gave myself and my two witnesses plenty of room to get ready. The room had a dining table and chairs, sofas and a super king size room. The double rooms we booked for our guests were clean, but the lighting was a full soft yellow so we would’ve struggled to get ready on those rooms. The food in the restaurant was lovely and we had a fabulous wedding meal which again upgraded, and for the extra it was worth it. We were served in the bar by Thomas and Ryan on both nights and they...

What an amazing experience. My daughter was married at Gretna and organised it all through this wonderful hotel. The reception was held here also. The food was fabulous, the staff had nothing is too much trouble attitude, making the whole experience extra special. My mother couldn 't attend through illness and really wanted to try the fishcakes, they went out of their way to arrange one to take home for her . Really excellent service. The gentleman who organised the occasion during the day made us all feel relaxed and happy. Saying this all the staff are brilliant I can 't pick one member above another. The wedding was just as my daughter wanted all went smoothly without hiccup. The cake, p... View menu

Stayed at the Smiths hotel for my brothers wedding. Arrived thinking the place would be tacky because of what it’s there for as a runaway hotel to accommodate for the fleeing wedding couples. The hotel was fantastic, very trendy inside. The staff couldn’t do more for you they were exceptional extremely friendly attentive. The bedrooms were superb, very spacious comfortable, except the mattresses, this is the only downfall to the hotel are the beds they are terrible, too soft nothing there to support your body whilst laying on them. The restaurant food is superb, presentation is appealing to the eye. The restaurant staff definitely need praising because they were lovely very good at their job...

We got married at Gretna Green 10yrs ago and stayed at the Smiths hotel and it was great (although the room was a bit dark and lighting too poor to apply wedding makeup) , so we booked to come back and stay while we renewed our vows. This time was a bit disappointing, nothing had been refurbed; the room was practically identical in decor to the one we’d stayed in 10yrs ago! The lighting was just as poor and the a/c wasn’t working. It was stifling trying to blow dry your hair in a room that has a tiny window that only opens 4” Gemma on reception was lovely and made our stay really as she was very helpful and professional as was the other lady on reception but the rest of the staff acted like...

"Visiting Port Patrick again today we thought we would try a new place to eat. We normally eat at the same place here but today with chose the Crown Hotel. When you walk into the crown you see how old it is and I must admit it looks quant but a little dated. After finding a seat and deciding what to eat I went to the bar to order food and drinks. The service from the member of staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 stake and ale in a pudding one with chips and one with baby potatoes. We were charged a few pence short of £39 and given 2 cans of coke and asked would we like a glass with them? £4.80 for 2 cans of coke) Going back to the table I sat down and within less than 5 minutes our food was there on our table. I always worry when the food is so quick as I never feel it properly prepared fresh for you and when you are paying £17 a meal you at least want something fresh-ish. WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME was while we were eating our food people were bringing dogs into the bar past our table to talk to a guy sat next to us. Chatting away these dogs were just sat by our feet as we ate. No one seemed to care about these dogs brushing up against people eating a meal. The food The baby potatoes were ok, the pudding was a frozen one you would get from a supermarket, the veg was hard, the meat was dry and bland and the gravy tasteless. I would say this food was a preprepared meal and just placed into a microwave. I don’t like to be so blunt in my reviews as this is always someone’s business and livelihood was are talking about, but this really was that bad. The service during the meal was none existent. When the waitress came to take our plates she did not seem surprised when I complained about our food, saying only I’ll pass it on. No apologies or anything. Even with me saying the food was especially the veg was disgusting. It was like water off a ducks back. Will I eat here again NO sadly the service and the food was very poor."

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."

"Mount Stewart Hotel Portpatrick First of all can I just say that this review is for both the Hotel and restaurant, not just the restaurant which is what tripadviser is asking about, My wife and I checked in on 18/7/22 for two nights dinner bed and breakfast, our initial impression was that the hotel was at the top of a steep road up from Portpatrick Main Street. With only a few parking places at the front, however there is resident parking at the back of the hotel but you then have to carry your bags down a hill at the side of the hotel to enter at the front not a problem but if elderly or infirm could be difficult. It would be sensible to unload at the front and then park at the back of the hotel, if there is no parking at the front, however when you first arrive you don’t know that there is no entrance at the back or anything about the hotel, so first tip would be dump your bags then park the car. On entering the Hotel we were greeted by a welcoming pleasant nice reception person young lady who quickly processed our admission and explained the layout and arrangements for meals etc, good start. We were located in the Wallace room which on the web site is listed as almost a suite, no exaggeration we loved it, a large room with double bed, good sized wardrobe a courtesy mini bar tea and coffee making facilities with a kettle and kenco coffee machine, a large tv never on a large en-suite shower room. In the en-suite there is dormer window this opens and has a pull down blackout blind built into it for privacy from the houses behind it takes a wee bit of fiddling to sort it .Best bit in the room was the window seat with a fantastic view over Portpatrick and the Irish Sea, I cannot express the pleasure we had watching boats coming and going from Portpatrick harbour simple pleasures And the window fully opened to allow air into the room, during the hottest two days of 2022 this was important and needs to be mentioned. On night one we headed down for dinner looking forward to a bit of fine dining and were directed into of all places the breakfast room to be seated at our table I think this is used for residents dining but I feel the room is a bit lacking in atmosphere We asked for a change of table to the bar area with a window table, this was sorted everything was great. Based on our two dinners in the hotel I would have to give the kitchen the thumbs up, the food was good and the service was chatty and friendly all good. Breakfast was well cooked with plenty of choice for cooked options there was cereal and fruit juice to help yourself to but no fresh fruit or yoghurt I found this unusual in a four star hotel. The only niggles I have are to do with the room we were in, there is a large burn in the carpet where someone I think has put the hairdryer down , the window in the main room is difficult to operate because of a rusted locking plate making the mechanism catch, the shower room door has no lock and no door catch so does not stay closed, we had to use a paper wedge to keep the door closed for a modicum of privacy, also an idiot sheet to explain the working of the dormer window would be helpful as most people wil never have had to operate one of these things. On our last morning my wife had a long lie then tried to take a shower only to find that there was no water, I went downstairs to find that there were only some breakfast staff in the hotel, they were very helpful and checked to see if there was any empty rooms, unfortunately there were none, the lady I was talking to explained that the water system in the hotel meant if others were using their shower there wouldn’t be enough pressure to get water to the top floor namely ours, so my wife used bottled water to clean her teeth and then we waited to see if the water pressure built up enough for her to take a shower this was a real adventure, eventually a trickle started then a real shower was had and equilibrium was restored, I found out later that a plumber was in and I take it had fixed whatever the problem had been. Please do not see these things as anything major, we really loved our stay at this"

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"
