"You can't stroll along the Danube anywhere near Regensburg's old city in good weather without seeing tables of people near the north side of the Stone Bridge sitting at the Spitalgarten. The sight is all the sales pitch this establishment needs to stay busy. After...weeks in Regensburg we found ourselves there when my husband's work place organized group tours of the Spital Brewery, followed by a beer tasting. Both of these were enjoyable and very interesting. We learned about the brewery's history, and the beer making process. The samples at the tasting were great as well--and I'm not even a big beer fan. To my knowledge these tours are not something individuals can book, but if you are part of a group, I would say investigate the possibility of scheduling one. Since we were already there we decided to eat dinner after the event. The dining experience wasn't awful; but I would definitely describe it as pedestrian. The menu features typical Bavarian food choices, with a few exceptions, one of which was the falafel I ordered. The seasoning was a little sweet for my taste. The children's menu had about six anticipated choices which were fine. One of my kids ordered pasta (l'm thinking spatzle) and the other kinderschnitzel. I don't recall my husband's order. The dining atmosphere was disappointing. All the reviews raving about the view, must have been written by the lucky customers who actually were able to snag one of the tables on the periphery that had a view. We could only find a spot closer to the building nearer all the hustle and bustle of wait staff coming and going. I'm guessing only a third of the outdoor tables are at a place where you can actually enjoy the view of the river, the bridge, etc. My advice is the same advice I had for the The Chinesischer Turm in Munich: Just get a beer and maybe an appetizer. Then enjoy your own stroll along the river taking in an unobstructed view of the beautiful city of Regensburg."

Pleasant garden on the Danube bank excellent during warm summer weather. Harty German cuisine and matching beer quality. We do recommend it.

Do yourself a favor, walk across the historic stone bridge, and have yourself a beer (or three) at the Spital. We were cruising up the Danube and had a...

This was our last stop in Regensburg. Located over a Danube walking bridge and down a narrow sidewalk. Very pretty and almost too formal to be a bierhaus....

This lovely sit down restaurant had a very delicious Dunkle that was so good I decided to start and end my day here. If you're anywhere near here, go check them out! You will not be disappointed!

We had dinner here while visiting Regensburg and enjoyed the bratwurst and beer very much. There is a nice view of the bridge and the old town while sitting under the trees. Beer is very good, service was very prompt and friendly, even with our...poor German.

The Spitalgarten is a fantastic spot to grab a beer and sit outside by the river. We visited during the summer and sitting under the trees and umbrellas was perfect. The waiter was funny and recommended some of the beers to us. I would highly...recommend this spot!

This is a big busy biergarten by the side of the river and the old bridge into town. It was quite difficult to get served as it was so busy but the food and drink was good, the hardworking waitress was friendly and even gave...me a cushion to sit on. Plenty of atmosphere.

We popped in here for a pitstop during a day trip to Regensburg, and ended up staying for lunch. It was obviously a popular place; it was already filling up for lunch with families at noon, so we thought we'd also order food; we're...glad we did. My roast pork was great, and the dumplings were probably the best I had in the five nights we stayed in Bavaria (even better than a certain Munich Wirtshaus which dines out on its Knoedel). My gf's goulash was also delightful and they included a complimentary side of cabbage, which was most welcome with our meaty mains. Our bill for four drinks and two mains, including a tip, was under which I think is very reasonable for the quality of the food and...

The quality of food was excellent and the beer was delicious. Highly recommend to reserve a table early and refrain from just trying to walk in as you may not get a table. The atmosphere was excellent which is paired with the perfect location by...the bridge for an easy walk from your car to your table. My wife, two year old and I went today and was treated with fantastic service by our waiter (who spoke perfect English) and even gave splendid recommendations in which, at the end of my meal had different beers based off his recommendation. As mentioned before I have my two year old with us and at the back of the place they have a playground although not big but, plenty big enough to enjoy th...
