"During our stay at the St. Magnus Bay Hotel in beautiful Hillswick, we dined at the restaurant multiple times. Every dish we tried was fantastic. The soups were particularly delicious - the blended lentil and vegetable soup with a sesame seed roll was well-seasoned and served in a beautiful soup tureen. The tomato and lentil soup the following night had even more intense flavors and was a hit with both of us. The entrees were equally impressive, especially the pan-seared scallops and monkfish with lemon, capers, and butter. The scallops were the largest we've ever had and the dish was very satisfying. The stuffed peppers with couscous and feta were beautifully presented and accompanied by a tasty salad. The chicken korma was flavorful and served in a generous portion. Sunday dinner featuring lamb, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, and multiple potato dishes was a classic English meal. The sticky toffee pudding dessert was so good, we had it twice. The included breakfast offered a variety of options, including a full English breakfast, bread/toast, cereal, granola, and fruit. It was a great way to fuel up before a day of hiking in the hills. While Hillswick's only restaurant, it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area."

Sunday carvery at the Magnus Bay Hotel in Hillswick cannot be beaten. Great food, lovely staff and a fantastic view. Can't wait to go again. Recommend booking as very popular.

not eaten here for years, but the reintroduction of the old Sunday Carverys, and the current owners tempted us back, five for lunch, amazing, enough to feed 50 of us!!!, comes highly recommended, thank you Andrea and Jodie, you did us proud View menu

I visited the restaurant for their carvery lunch on August 6th. I was very disappointed with the behavior of the male owner. While waiting in the bar area, I overheard the owner yelling at a male employee to get back to work. I was not the only one who heard this, as the employee was talking to other guests at the same time. At that point, I decided to leave as I was appalled by the owner's attitude. I will never go back to that restaurant.

Finally got round to having lunch here despite only living 2 miles away... A fantastic experience; great service, good selection of drinks including Lerwick Brewery beer on tap which are a must try. The food was excellent- 3 of us had the carvery and were not disappointed- very generous portions and all well cooked and good quality. The desserts were equally delicious. Will definitely be back and really hope the standards are kept up when the hotel is sold.

Was recommended St Magnus Bay Hotel for food by a friend that lived in Shetland. Went for the Sunday carvery. Honestly, it was the best carvery I’ve ever eaten. Five meats (yes you can have them all! cooked perfectly, tender and moist. Roast tatties, mashed tatties, 3 different veggies, gravy home made yorkshires. My plate was groaning under the weight of it all! On top there were a good selection of starters and alternatives for vegetarian/vegans and to round it off a selection of delicious puds (the sticky toffee pud was amazing! . Andrea on the carvery and her waiting staff were all so lovely! Thoroughly recommend! View menu

This was our fourth visit to Shetland, but the first time we were able to find the hotel open for lunch. We received a friendly greeting and were informed (almost apologetically) that they were only serving sandwiches and soup for lunch. We have always wanted to dine here, so we decided to go with the sandwiches. The bartender apologized for the wait as there was only one kitchen staff member and a few people in the hotel. However, the sandwiches were worth the wait - they were delicious, generously portioned, and good value for money. Even though we thought we couldn't finish it all, the sandwiches were so tasty and well-prepared that it would have been rude not to. It appears that the hote...

Our tour group was booked to have lunch here, so in we went! No one appeared to tell us where to go, so we all headed into what looked like a restaurant/bar area. Still no one appeared! After a few minutes, our guide came in and told us that we needed to go through a closed door on the other side of the hallway. Here was a room laid out with tables for our lunch! Several ladies served us, but none seemed particularly happy to have us there. We were all given potato and leek soup (which was very good) and bread, and there was a plate of scones plus mixed cakes per table enough for a scone each, plus one extra, with maybe one or two cakes each as well as long as you were flexible on what you h...

"We had a meal last Friday at the steak house in town, and didn’t have a good experience. I left a detailed review on their Facebook page to warn others about it and it appears it’s gone! Can’t see how that’s fair as it was...a fair warning to anyone going. Makes me wonder how many bad reviews have been removed. Would give a lot fairer outlook and how overpriced and unprofessional they are! This wouldn’t be as bad if it hadn’t cost so much, as I’d happily pay for a brilliant meal, but the fact this is a steak house with high prices, you expect a certain standard. In brief, Aimees steak was well over cooked, so told the waiter, who comes back and claims the steak continues to cook after it’s been rested!!! Hillarious that the chef thought that was true, being a steak house they need to be nailing every steak perfect especially at their prices! So anyway, told the waiter that wasn’t the case and I’m well experienced in cooking steak, but he claimed that was still the fact. And instead of discounting our meal for aimees half eaten steak, they offered a free drink! Also the seafood we had with it was over cooked and dry, muscled were terrible, as was the langoustines, and tasteless. Didn’t get any recompense for that. My meal was fine, I had a ribeye and was cooked bang on, maybe ribeyes don’t cook themselves after they’ve been rested And as for charging each for their sides, on top of their expensive meal, bit of a **** take! And one of Aimees gins was advertised contained ginger fever tree and was to cost but they added the mixer on top of the And then on our way out, after I grudgingly paid for the meal (which wouldn’t be that bad if it was a nice dining experience), a member of the kitchen staff looked Aimee up and down in disgust, obviously annoyed at HER for HIM doing a poor job of cooking the food. We will never be back and if they’re deleting reviews, they could be a lot worse as just this experience. Edit: I’d like to point out I put this review on the page to warn others and also allow the business to take some criticism, the customer is always right and all that. Removing the review has just annoyed me, that’s why I’ve made this post."
