"I was served by a lovely lady who couldn’t do enough for the customers. Coffee from a packet? £2.50 as well. I wish I had called at the costa just down the road. Toast came out already buttered. Reason is that they use Cheap spread . I used the toilet downstairs. Only 1 toilet and the person who use It before me had opened their bowels which is ok but literally a human body dividing the toilet door from the kitchen door and the kitchen door was wedged open as the staff were taking food orders up to the restaurant. I really did not like this and I definitely will not return. I feel it is really unhealthy to have the 1 toilet right opposite the kitchen. Hardly any gap between doors and as I say, it was wedged open. All smells going into where food is prepared. Such a shame as the Scottish lady who works there is so nice. I will stick to the Costa in bishops Waltham…. Great coffee …and tasty butter for you to spread yourself.!"

Delicious breakfast this morning at the Anvil Cafe. Had fried eggs, bacon on muffins. Lovely place and such friendly staff.

Had a nice lunch, at the outdoor seating area, having a really nice sandwich. Extremely nice there, even for a first-time visitor to the town centre.

Lovely building, very good service (couldn't be better). However the coffee was not great. In fact I suspect it was a coffee sachet that you can buy in supermarkets. Ok if you were paying £1 for it, but in a cafe charging £2.50? I left... View menu

Called in for Sunday breakfast , young staff were friendly and attentive but the coffee was awful cheap instant popped in to a cafetiere to make an impression. Breakfast was slow to arrive and with a childlike portion and cheap spread on the toast and inedible beans microwaved ? it was hardly worth the wait only redeeming feature was pleasant staff but will not return

It was a very cold day today and we enjoyed an extremely warm welcome at the Anvil Tearooms. (scrumptious mulled wine helped too! The waitresses were friendly and helpful. Our food was definitely home made and delicious… shepherd’s pie; carrot and coriander soup; happy cheesy eggy. We even tried out the treacle tart and raspberry frangipane for pudding. Treacle tart with lashings of custard. Yum! Fred was a very welcoming host and all in all we were very impressed. It was our first meal here. It won’t be our last. Thank you.

Very busy Saturday lunchtime meal, that was far better than we had hoped for. Great enthusiastic young staff, wonderful menu and produced by the kitchen. The fact that there was so many people coming in and enjoying so great food must be heartening for the owners. In fact there was a real cross section of customer, locals, tourists, a large group , and a cycle club all happily looked after efficently, and with charm. My welsh rarebit, something I have not had for many years was superb and my parners vegetarioan soup was excellent and it was a huge bowl full. Great stuff on a damp cold day. Cakes looked so inviting as well. View menu

We tried the Vegan bourguignon and the Vegan Cottage pie, both of which were absolutely outstanding! A delicious mix of mushrooms, carrots with a rich sauce that was flavoursome. The cottage pie was delicious, never have lentils tasted this good! Our friends had a savoury cream tea, (delicious) and a very generous ploughman's! The venue is beautiful with crisp white linen table cloths to compliment the Tudor building, but we chose to sit in the courtyard garden, which was very peaceful. The service was very good, our meal arrived promptly and the tea was served in a lovely pot with gorgeous china. A real gem! it is definitely one we will be returning to soon.

My car was in for its service at the Fiat/Small Cars garage in Lower Upham on what was a wet chilly day 28th). Having brought my Spaniel along for a walk to use the time productively, we found ourselves at the your very welcoming café at around 11:00 we were WET. No problem, I was advised that we needed to seat ourselves in the wood floor area, which is where I would have chosen . Service, from the young dark haired server was polite timely. The offer a doggy treat was a pleasant surprise much appreciated . The bacon fried egg baguette I had hit the spot, as did my cappuccino. Not long after we sat down, a rescue dog in training arrived he too seemed to enjoy his possibly) 1st time out. All...
