"What: Breakfast Bread for Brunch Where: Haggerston, London, UK Value: £15pp Food Review: To eat: one vegetarian and one smoked salmon breakfast in bread. To drink: the orange one. The vegetarian is filled with slow roasted tomatoes, spinach, leeks, oyster mushrooms, avocado, topped with a free range egg and sprinkled with cheese. The smoked salmon is filled with spinach, mushroom, leeks, smoked salmon, crème fraiche topped with a free range egg sprinkled with cheese. As the vegetarian does not have any sauce the bread can be a bit heavy and can take over, whereas the smoked salmon does have a sauce allowing you to soak the bread. for a reservation for an breakfast in bread brunch a few weeks back booked as we know that tables might be difficult to book while washing. there was a little late, but we were nicely accommodated. ordered her classic breakfast in bread, full english, and it was soou good. the concept is brilliant. full English breakfast in a massive sourdough bread, which is very good in itself, with Runny-Jolk-Ei, cheese and some crumbs occupied. it was sooo good and the portion size is hefty. and do not forget the desserts: we had the walnut and celestial disc and it is only heavenly. can not wait to come back and try the rest on their menu. Definitely...read more

to enjoy a beautiful morning, we went for a nice walk along the canal until we reached the barge house for our booked brunch. protip: get a reservation as it is quite busy, even at breakfast in brot is a great concept, my family does something similar, but as an appetizer for our family reunion dinner. I had the original, my friend laughing. I have preferred the original, as it is a least common combination (it is not as if I had not had a thousand times laughs, dill and cream freche). the brot is good, but the star of the plate are all the other ingredients that fill the hollow brot bowl. it is as delicious as it fills; no lunch was on this day. it was exhausting...read more View menu

Great coffee and food in a beautifully romantic setting alongside the canal. I headed here on a sunny weekday afternoon for lunch. I sat by the large windows in the cafe come bar, and ordered the Cauliflower Steak. When it arrived I was shocked at just how beautiful the dish was. Thankfully it tasted just as good as it looked, maybe even better. Each bite of my cauliflower steak revealed a new flavour I didn't want it to end. If anyone thought cauliflower was boring, this dish would change their minds! The presentation here certainly matches the quality of the food, and I could tell that the chef puts a lot of love into the dishes he creates. The food here is ridiculously good...read more

"A friend and I stumbled on to this neighbourhood restaurant by chance; no research, no booking, no expectations. We were then blown away by the quality of the food: wonderfully fresh fish, beautifully cooked. The service is also exemplary. I've always enjoyed calamari, but this was by far the best I've ever had: truly succulent and juicy. The mussels were almost as good, and the sea bream kept up the standard. The spiced quince with ice cream made a nice change from baclava in a Turkish restaurant (they still threw in some baclava). The owner, Tony, provides excellent recommendations — make sure you take them! He knows what's fresh that morning, and how his wife cooks it. The bill comes hand-written, and Tony forgot to include the wine (obviously I corrected him). I can't remember the last time a restaurant bill made a mistake in the customers' favour! No service charge is included, and it deserves a lot more than the usual 12.5%. This is a wonderful, old-fashioned restaurant, run by a charming old couple, committed to maintaining old-fashioned standards. The food is more than great and the prices more than reasonable. Service is personal, honest and responsive (providing Tony turns his hearing aid on). Tony warns you if anything you wanted was bought in, rather than home-made. Why don't unassuming but wonderful restaurants like this get Michelin stars?"
