"Went for food this week as we were staying close by on the canal for a night. I have to be honest, on first impressions I was not sure what it would be like, especially when the barmaid explained they had a limited menu at the moment. We're not overly fussy eaters though and are always happy to try everything, everywhere and give anywhere a fair chance. The reduced menu was simple but offered enough of a choice of a snack, main meal, burger, fish and chips etc.We had a cheese and bacon and burger and scampi and chips. Based on the food we ordered I can honestly say it was one of the best pub meals we have had. Really really good chips, probably the best I have had in a pub, the burger was juicy with lots of flavour, as were the onion rings and scampi.I'm not sure reading the other reviews if the pub has recently been taken over. I mean sure it needs a little doing up here and there and the garden could be much better and made better use of, but hopefully these things are in hand. With the loss of trade with Covid and now lack of money around it will take time, but if we're passing again in the future we will definitely pop in to see and eat again."

Carol, the manager of this charming pub, was incredibly hospitable. Despite being wet ourselves, along with our two soaked dogs, we were provided with free dog treats, blankets, and delicious wine. We will definitely be returning. Thank you, Carol! Service: 5 Location: 5 Highlights: Great value.

The pub from the outside looked like it needed some attention appearing very run down but internally we really liked it. Homely, welcoming and Maggie the dog sat by the television in old position, this pub has got bags of potential... My kind of pub but sadly they were not serving food. We ended up having some drinks and a packet of crisps instead. They have a games room with a pool table and a couple of televisions and a nice garden and all this pub needs is an outdoor lick of paint. We enjoyed our visit. Visited 23rd March 2024

"I visited my daughter and son-in-law last week and on my request they had booked a table for us on black horse on Saturday night at 1 o'clock. we arrived shortly before the pm and all four of us stood in the bar where two were served. it wasn't busy. no one told us anything until the bar was clear and then one of the ladies looked at me and I said we booked a table in my name of my daughter and she saw the bookings and said oh yes, we had table assigned and pointed into another room. there was no greeting no smiling, so we met our way to the table and sat there. there were no menus on the table, so I stood up to find some and someone only made their way from the other room in the direction of our table. we ordered drinks that were in themselves a task, as they had no free or dietary limmonade, so I had to go to the end for a gin with slimline tonic. then we ordered four different meal times. I ordered a vegetarian curry in naanbrot and when it finally came, I was so disappointed because the naanbrot was burned and the curry was cold on the outside, so I asked them to take it back. the waitress asked if I wanted to order something else and I went back. my daughter then shared some of her meals with me, who were chicken pupils. they were coated in a teig that was extremely fat. the menu does not seem to come out of any meal with fresh vegetables, everything seemed to come with chips and draughts, even the Steak-Mahl came only with chips and draughts, no mushrooms, tomatoes, wobble rings or something. I wasn't impressed. for a pub that wants good reviews, I think they have lost the property. the customer service is everything and fresh vegetables is essential. I'm sorry to be the bearer worse, but we won't come back."
