"The Black Bull is an eclectic merge of Japanese and British cuisine. It sort of works but at the same time always provides a menu which sometimes borders on the unnecessarily challenging. It can be a little pricey, the cheapest options are on a par with 2 AA rosette restaurants I have dined at, but otherwise you are looking at £30 for a main course. If you send your children to the nearby private Sedbergh school this is probably pocket change but for most, it makes this restaurant a touch pricey for what it offers."

Delicious food served in a great venue, without pretension.

The main restaurant is not open Monday or Tuesday. The reduced offer on those days in not that interesting or inspiring.

Excellent food and service. Great ambience. Not an extensive menu but there is something to please everyone. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Wine list a little on the pricey side. Definitely recommend and will go back again.

Wonderful food from the a la carte menu. We love their food. Like many establishments they are struggling to find good staff post Brexit. On this particular day they were under staffed so we had to wait a while. As it happened we weren’t in a rush and the food was worth waiting for.

Best thing we had was the hummus and crackers, delicious. The main sadly tasteless for both of us, and desert didn’t work picking chunks of hard toffee out of my teeth. Very expensive for poor value. Try harder to understand flavours for vegetarians or charge less for the food. Staff were lovely

Everything superb bar the flat iron steak. Seriously tough and difficult to cut even with a steak knife. I’m aware it’s a tricky cut that only allows minimal cooking but given how superb everything else was this was a real disappointment. Funny taste. Not really like steak at all. I couldn’t eat it.

In too much of a rush to take our order. Didn't answer question about what veg included with the main. We waited 40 mins to receive our food and when asked why there was a delay we were advised that the beef fillet took a long time to cook! No apology for slow service and we were the only diners still in the restaurant. The food was excellent but the overall experience was disappointing
