"we visited here at the weekend as a large group of mature ladies. they first saw outside, as it was nice and sunny and much room, but as the sun sat it cool and we pulled in. another round of drinks ordered, which were very loud again, as there was a new employee who didn't seem to be very supportive at all! Shortly after the order we were asked to go as they had table bookings with us, we were not even sitting on the tables, we were standing in the middle and b) it was then and still nobody sat at the tables! we were very disappointed how we were treated bit moved on the red lion directly over the road where we had booked a table for dinner. To feel very welcome there, as we returned the day after Sunday lunch! will never be back to the dalesman either as a large group, or even as smaller groups when camping close!"

Tried numerous times just to get a beer. They are happy to serve you outside the pub (very handy with winter drawing in), but being able to drink inside the pub is like finding the holy grail. Unless your eating, don't bother.

Really nicely prepared and presented food, served by personable, knowledgeable staff. Unlike other establishments in Sedbergh, this property has a good product, knows it, but isn’t overly cocky about it. Lovely staff, not afraid of chatting to the customer, either!

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Although we had reservations for four, another couple we met on the Dales Way joined us last minute without a reservation. The staff graciously accommodated them by adding two extra seats to our table. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely, as it is located in a beautifully restored old building. The food was delicious and I highly recommend dining here.

We went in the restaurant tonight and the place was lovely, the foods a bit expensive for what you get, it was presented really nicely but it was just warm, the plates were hot but not the food, one of my potato's had been burnt and...the burnt but cut off , the waitress said sorry but offered no reduction in price, We paid and left, I wouldn’t go back again because of this . If the food had been hot they would of got stars

on a Monday night, four adults visited per year. was warmly welcomed at the arrival beautiful menu for adults and children with many vegan milk free and gluten-free options. Eat quickly was eaten, just how... quick was the rough lamb excellent, but all the others looked delicious. also the youngest who only eat spamreis and inherited loved his chicken nuggets and chips. we all desserts beautiful and cheeseboard was great. can not wait to be highly recommended again.

The ragu dish was disappointing, with cold, undercooked sauce and starchy pasta. The sweet potato fondant dish, which promised a lot with its description of sorrel, sage oyster mushroom fricassee, and herb cream, fell short. It consisted of a large chunk of sweet potato, some sweet potato cubes and peel, a few mushrooms, shredded herbs, and a runny sauce. Overall, the meal cost £20 per plate once service was added. The new team of chefs certainly provided us with a memorable dining experience, but not necessarily in the way they intended. As someone who is not a chef, I would have been embarrassed to serve these dishes to anyone.

the next dish made easy for the disappointing start. crispy ente salat with pak choi, waterdress and chili ingwer dressing was full of taste. first it looked like there was hardly any escape, but the more I buried there was a lot scattered through the salate. water chestnuts were added to the crunch and the pak choi was usually stiel that delivered additional texture. the small discs of the duck breast had an excellent taste and were not overwhelmed by the pfefferian water circles. the disc chilipfeffer was not really necessary because the dressing had a good heat on it. additional strong aroma contributions came from spring onion and chopped ginger. I really enjoyed it...read more

we visited twice during our weeks in sedbergh. we were comprehensible in view of the mixed reviews on tripadvisor, but since the selection of restaurants in sedbergh is limited, we decided to give the dalesman an attempt. I had the suppenstarter on both. the goat starter was however very bland. the sea bass main and rust dinner were pretty. ale selection was ok, but not on our personal choice. the staff was generally good, but on our second visit we had to go and get our wein out of the bar, as the waitress was very slow, although she had taken the weeping order to go fishing with him when it arrived. it is definitely worth a visit overall, but maybe something overpriced for the standard of...

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
