"We stayed in the Chainbridge suite for one night. We arrived at the reception at 1420 on a Saturday afternoon, we were told we could only check in from 1500hrs. We asked if they had a 'left luggage ' area, the lady behind reception pointed to some bags behind her and said 'here, but I 'm getting boxed in '. We kept hold of our bags. We decided to have a bite to eat whilst waiting for our room, unfortunately the restaurant closes at 1430 and doesn 't reopen until 1800, I asked if they had sandwiches (or anything else) we could buy, a member of staff told me I could buy crisps behind the bar or 'if I was feeling adventurous I could go in to the town '; the town is 2 miles away. We got in to a queue to check in at 1500, when we eventually got to our room it was fantastic with great views. As we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary I went to the Bar to get some fizz, I was told it is not possible to charge things to your room. The restaurant is open for evening meals between 1800 1945. Breakfast is 0800 1000, lunch 1200 1430. Outside of these times there is no provision for food except crisps ie no room service, no vending machines, no sandwiches Breakfast was OK, but it was quite small. I suggested to my wife that given how strict they were on not bending the check in time we could probably expect a knock on the door if we hadn 't vacated by exactly 1100hrs. I was wrong, at exactly 1100hrs a member of staff opened our door with a pass key and walked in without so much as a cursory knock, she announced check out was 1100hrs. We were about to walk out of the room but we still thought the behaviour was not right. We found the staff to be friendly and polite, even the lady who came in to our room without knocking had a polite manner. I think the hotel lacks something; the intransigent check in policy, the restricted restaurant times and the lack of ability to charge things to your room give the impression of being a little outdated not in a good way."

Awful place, even the Parisian bedbugs checked out early, unrecognisable from how it was advertised, cheap, tawdry and dated

Passed the place on the canal walk to Angel Falls so popped in for a much needed drink as we began the walk back to Llangollen. Prices and service ok, and view from the table on the terrace was simply stunning.

We didn’t stay at the hotel but noticed it on our walk and poped in for breakfast. The staff were so friendly and accommodating even though we didn’t have a room. Breakfast was delisted to such a beautiful location views of the river.

The dining room looked lovely with a beautiful view. The bar staff were polite enough. We walked from Llangollen with our dog, but I am unsure of the restaurant's opening hours and dining times. It's best to check before making the walk. There is limited parking nearby. We recommend stopping here during a walk along the canal for great views. View menu

Arrived at the hotel with a warm welcome as always. Stayed for 2 nights. We can't recommend this hotel enough. Staff work so hard and the service is outstanding. We visit this hotel a couple of times per year and we were married here in 2019. Beautiful stay, nice relaxing and winding down break. Can't fault it at all. Thank you once again Seamus for a fantastic stay.

Lovely hotel. Our room is a little small and no bath. But the bed is comfortable and clean. Staff are very pleasant. Especially Joshua. For a teenage lad his manners were natural and really pleasant. Food is lovely, although could do with warming the plates up before service. Prices for food and drinks are quite reasonable tbf. And the walks around are just outstanding.

The restaurant is located by the river which creates a magical atmosphere, and the staff are wonderful. However, I was extremely disappointed with the meal. My wild mushroom pie was smothered in thick, salty gravy, masking the taste of the few mushrooms present and leaving the pastry soggy. The peas that accompanied the dish were clearly from a tin. Looking back, I should have sent it back, and I still regret not doing so. It might have been a poor menu choice, but I would be cautious about dining there again. View menu

Booked for Mother's day 19th March well in advance. Restaurant did find our booking. Got there 2.30pm, very busy I think overbooked! Carvery on which we didn't expect. Meal okay but not very hot lamb undercooked fatty, daughter couldn't eat it at all! Beef okay. No smiles from waitresses except for one helpful girl. Waited 40 minutes for dessert due to lack of detail with service so my husband complained. Nice when they came to be fair they were deducted from bill. Such a shame as we went last year for Sunday lunch were very impressed with food service. This has put us off somewhat from returning.

We spent the night at this restaurant for a relaxing birthday celebration, but ended up feeling more stressed than when we arrived! Despite some shortcomings, the location and balcony room were fantastic. However, parking was a nightmare with only a few spaces available not designated for guests. We had to park in another upper car park and carry our luggage up multiple flights of stone and metal bridge steps. Getting to reception with our bags was a challenge due to narrow walkways crowded with tables. We arrived early for check out and were asked to wait until the 3 pm check in time. Unfortunately, we checked in late and then had to wait outside our room for the cleaner to finish. The even...

"Went for afternoon tea with my wife, using an 'experience ' voucher from a well known site, costing £35.99 absolute disaster! The description said 'sit down in the sophisticated dining room and tuck into a section of finger sandwiches, tantalising cakes, pastries, macarons and scones with clotted cream and jam. You won 't want this afternoon to end! ' Trust me, we could not get out of their quick enough and go and find somewhere to get something to eat. The sophisticated dining room was a large, cold room with only a couple of other diners, sticky wooden tables, with no table cloths, just a flimsy paper napkin and a knife and fork. We ordered a coffee and a tea, which came in the smallest teapot, I have ever seen. Later in the meal, when we asked for another drink, we were told that was extra and were charged another £5.70. The food was nothing like as described or pictured on the website. A sad looking selection of sandwiches four quarters each of thin sliced bread one containing a very small piece of processed ham, a second mashed up egg, third was some sort of fish, not sure if it was salmon or tuna; and finally some sort of green leaf with something wet on top it looked like the sandwich had been made days earlier and then sat upon! No pastries or macarons but the two scones with clotted cream and two little pots of jam were OK, however the remaining small cakes were dreadful, none of them were fresh there were two eclairs that were inedible, either the cream or chocolate was off and they were very dry; two little red velvet cakes, which again were dry and horrible; and finally two small pieces of carrot cake that were the least objectionable but again very dry. When we told the waitress the eclairs, she said she would tell the chef but no offer of an alternative. True, it was an unforgettable experience, but not in the way we had expected! We have had afternoon teas in top hotels, pubs, cafes and well known garden centres and nothing came close to being as bad as this meal. Needless to say we will never return and would strongly advise caution if anyone is thinking of going here."
