"Really saddens me to be writing this, this has been one of my favourite places for over 10 years but this is the second visit in a couple of months where the food has been terrible, and today I don’t feel the staff were overly friendly either. Visited for a birthday treat with friends, had to ask to be served, then the waitress appeared a little miserable. Food came out and I’d ordered a Grilled Halloumi salad, at £10.70 I expected a nice full salad, what I was actually presented with was a small amount of chopped bits at the bottom of a bowl, no eggs as stated and quite frankly no where near enough salad for £10.70! I sent it back for the eggs only for it to then be brought back out with avocado instead and told they had no eggs. I do not like avocado so at this point I sent it back and didn’t eat anything. The member of staff (sue) was apologetic and offered me chips, but I’m currently trying to make better food choices and was looking forward to a nice salad. As this is the second bad visit recently I am afraid I won’t be back. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful place but has really gone downhill recently."

Highly recommended to us but maybe we had too high expectations. Lunch very average and a bit over done. Scone hard as a rock cake. Personal taste but struggled to cut in to it. Cakes fine enough but just that. No Bette or worse than many others. Looked impressive but tasted average. Service was friendly.

Fantastic afternoon tea provided by this Gem of a cafe , super service ,amazing selection of sweet and savory items ,as much tea or other drinks as we could manage. We were even able to bring what we couldn’t eat home, really happy to recommend this cafe. Very good value for money. Thanks so much for a lovely afternoon.

Had an amazing afternoon tea today, lots to eat and drink, and plenty to take home for later! Staff are very friendly and the service was excellent. Definitely recommend a visit we will go back again. The home made cakes in the display cabinet look fantastic . Outside seating available if the weather is good, and a very picturesque view. All in all a 5* experience, thank you!

Went to this quaint tearoom as part of a small family get together. What can I say but I found a secret treasure of a place with wonderful food and service. Great choices serving with fresh salads. Lovely atmosphere throughout. The place was full with a selection of age groups which was nice too. Staff were so accommodating too ,every one happy and welcoming. This is a place I must return to. Well done to everyone who works there .

At £20 per head this must be the most excellent tea in the country. So often afternoon tea majors on the sweet over the savoury but here, as well as three different types of finger sandwiches there is a warm quiche, warm sausage roll and warm savoury scones with butter and pickle. Then come the sweets scones with jam and lashings of cream, meringues with cream and strawberries, lemon cake and chocolate brownies. Everything is homemade and obviously so. A huge selection of teas and coffees with unlimited replacements. We had to bring home the brownies as we were beaten. Altogether recommended 100% and I will visit again. NB you need to book ahead. We visited for breakfast after finding this place on google. The location is just lovely. Quirky little cottage with and indoor area and grassed area outdoors with picnic tables and umbrellas. Staff where absolutely lovely and friendly. They actually showed interest in their customers of where they come from. We visited when it was very quite early morning therefore the food and drinks came out fast and hot and we could not fault it. On the second occasion when we visited they where really busy and the food level dropped to average with some items cold on the plate. Overall I would go back again as I said the staff made you feel very very welcome.

Heard good things but unfortunately we didn't rate it on our visit today. Ordered the last lemon scone in the display cabinet it came warm on the outside cold in the middle like it had been microwaved... very dry, almost stale, couldn't eat it. They agreed to take it off the bill. There wasn't much choice on cakes in the cabinet today. The pancakes looked amazing but we didn't see them on the menu. Ended up just having a pot of tea. Didn't end up getting our water we asked for and had to ask twice for the cream for the scone. Maybe just a bad day. But unfortunately we won't be returning because of that. Felt like we got challenged a little bit on the way out by a lady staff member over the s...

"Went for afternoon tea with my wife, using an 'experience ' voucher from a well known site, costing £35.99 absolute disaster! The description said 'sit down in the sophisticated dining room and tuck into a section of finger sandwiches, tantalising cakes, pastries, macarons and scones with clotted cream and jam. You won 't want this afternoon to end! ' Trust me, we could not get out of their quick enough and go and find somewhere to get something to eat. The sophisticated dining room was a large, cold room with only a couple of other diners, sticky wooden tables, with no table cloths, just a flimsy paper napkin and a knife and fork. We ordered a coffee and a tea, which came in the smallest teapot, I have ever seen. Later in the meal, when we asked for another drink, we were told that was extra and were charged another £5.70. The food was nothing like as described or pictured on the website. A sad looking selection of sandwiches four quarters each of thin sliced bread one containing a very small piece of processed ham, a second mashed up egg, third was some sort of fish, not sure if it was salmon or tuna; and finally some sort of green leaf with something wet on top it looked like the sandwich had been made days earlier and then sat upon! No pastries or macarons but the two scones with clotted cream and two little pots of jam were OK, however the remaining small cakes were dreadful, none of them were fresh there were two eclairs that were inedible, either the cream or chocolate was off and they were very dry; two little red velvet cakes, which again were dry and horrible; and finally two small pieces of carrot cake that were the least objectionable but again very dry. When we told the waitress the eclairs, she said she would tell the chef but no offer of an alternative. True, it was an unforgettable experience, but not in the way we had expected! We have had afternoon teas in top hotels, pubs, cafes and well known garden centres and nothing came close to being as bad as this meal. Needless to say we will never return and would strongly advise caution if anyone is thinking of going here."
