"The ambiance was awful. The hip-hop music did not match the setting at all. Our food order arrived in pieces and was missing items. The service was slow, with our drink order taking 20 minutes to arrive and another 20 minutes to take our main order due to a large party. The main course took a long time to come out because they were busy. Smoke from outside smokers wafted in through the main doors. The waitresses were friendly and helpful, but overall the experience was lacking. I will not be returning and do not recommend this restaurant. It's a shame because the venue has potential. The menu was a bit over the top, with strange items like "lamm and sardelle.""

The staff at the restaurant were unfriendly and the menu had very few options that my partner found appealing.

The food was lovely but we had a table booked for 8.30 and we had to ask at 9pm for menus as nobody even acknowledged our table.

Worst experience I’ve ever had in my life after being left waiting an hour nearly and pointed at I would never visit again such a bad experience

Booked a table for 7:15 and weren’t seated until 8pm...left waiting in the bar area because of a large table in the restaurant. Food was very good....once we were fed.

We had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. We opted for the lunch menu, which was good value for money. We plan to return for dinner in the future. The staff were attentive and polite.

Amazing food, with the best flavouring we've tasted for a long while. Fantastic venue and staff who really look after you. To top it all the value for money is arguably the best. We went 12 months ago and we thought it was good then now it has that top London restaurant experience as well. Well done to the Church team 10/10

We visited midweek so was a little empty, but the building is lovely and when busy would make a lovely venue. I also know someone who has used it as a wedding meal venue which was perfect for their day...and I would be tempted to use it for mine one day too. I compare all my meals out to 'The Gingerman' in Brighton as this is the best place I've eaten at. Its been a few months since we ate at the Church, but I remember the duck main course being amazing. It was reasonably priced and we really enjoyed our meal here. It has probably got to be the best place we've eaten at in Northampton and is well worth a visit

"I wondered why this restaurant described itself on the board outside as ‘fusion’, why there were so many Korean dishes on the menu and why the serving staff have heard of Asahi beer but haven’t heard of The Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese daily newspaper that is at least 50 years old. The answer is that the Akasaka website isn’t being completely honest when it describes their Northampton branch as a Japanese restaurant. They aren’t really Japanese, although some of their menu items are clearly Japanese. Don’t let that put you off, however, as they are serving excellent food and we enjoyed our meal there very much. It cost us about £70 (inc. 10% tip) for our meal for two people including a 175ml glass of Sauvignon Blanc for my lovely wife and two 330ml bottles of Asahi Dry for me. The sushi was excellent, the edamame beans were great but we didn’t feel that the Dolsot Bibimbap (a Korean dish with loads of rice, some shredded vegetables, prawns and a fried egg on top) offered very good value for money at just under sixteen pounds. We would recommend Akasaka in Northampton and would certainly go there again, but if we want a genuinely Japanese meal, prepared and served by Japanese staff, then we will be sticking to Ginza Restaurant on Wellingborough Road in Northampton. Don’t like the way that the male members of staff at Sakura on Bridge Street speak to their female colleagues, very disrespectful, so we avoid that Japanese restaurant nowadays. Great to have a choice of three Japanese restaurants in Northampton post-pandemic, and our favourite of the three is Ginza."
