"We arrived soaking wet during a heavy rainfall and after I enquired regarding the availability of a table was answered by a petite dark haired woman (a member of staff who needs customer focused training), who informed me in an extremely curt and abrupt manner that, “if you notice I am about to clear and clean that table.” I hadn’t noticed and as she didn’t have any cleaning materials in her hand at the time was rather confused, up but we waited patiently whilst she eventually cleared and cleaned. Later the same member of staff came to take our order, again in a curt manner. When she returned with an incorrect order her reaction was that it was our fault that she had confused the order and she flounced off without a word of apology. Another member of staff delivered our tea cakes and then our coffees arrived and were again delivered by the original member of staff with what I can only describe as a reluctant and irritated manner. Maybe we were treated like this as the norm for that particular member of staff, maybe she had an ‘off day’ or was it because we were ignorant southerners who did not understand the ordering/paying system? Why the original member of staff bothers to work in the cafe is bizarre if she dislikes visitors and/or waiting at table? Maybe a job working behind the scenes would be more suitable for her? Whatever the reason for her manner it left a nasty taste in our mouths!"

Called in for a quick coffee Andy sat outside in the ‘platform’ next to an decommissioned steam train. Service was prompt, friendly and very welcoming. Well worth a visit

This is a great place to visit and the food is quality. Situated in the back of the bike shop so don’t be afraid to go in. They were really busy today but still managed to keep on top of orders. The staff were lovely...

Absolutely awful We were stood in the car park debating where to eat, I was trying to encourage my autistic child to face his anxiety following covid and venture into town, I did say to him come on there will be better cafes in town....

We visited the cafe twice on a 2 night stay at the nearby caravan site. The coffee is some of the best we have tasted in ages, freshly ground and brewed in the cafe. Comfortable seating and warm welcome, dogs allowed inside too. Food was...

Lovely place for a quiet brunch in Hawes. Off the main drag so seemed overlooked which is a shame as it was very good indeed. Clearly cycling focused but even on the other kind of bikes we were made most welcome. Highly recommend the Tiffin!

Great coffee and the orange and poppy seed cake was very tasty. Husband had the giant tea cake and he said it was delicious. Had a good laugh with the owner when the young lad helping, was screwing up a plastic milk bottle only for the top to fly off and hit me. A great place and we will be going back for another coffee before we leave Hawes.

"We arrived frazzled because we drove around the grounds in the dark not knowing where to go. The signage inside the grounds is no help at all. Allow time for this if you haven't been before. Fortunately we had because we wanted a pre dinner drink in the bar before we ate. Even when we did arrive we weren't sure if we had arrived at the back entrance because we stood for ages with no welcome or acknowledgement. A very disappointing start to our evening. When someone did come they didn't take our coats. We went through to the snug for a drink. They gave us menus and went away. Later came back for our order. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Then very quickly afterwards we were asked to go through to the restaurant. We had only had a couple of sips of our drinks and it was still prior to the time we had actually booked our table for (7.30pm). We felt rushed. The food came and was fabulous. I had the beetroot starter which had beautifully cooked beetroots and some pickles. It also had a grain through it. I couldn't remember what the grain was so asked a member of staff. She didn't know so went away to ask and came back saying it was probably buckwheat....probably! My main was pork belly with parsnip and an apple reduction. The pork could have been cooked a little longer. I think belly needs to be very well cooked until really soft. The top skin was impossible to cut through as it was not crisp, I couldn't eat it. A steak knife would have helped. Having said that it was still a good dish which could have been excellent. We had sides of mashed potato and greens with pickles both superb. The presentation of both dishes was innovative and inviting. Portion size was good too not tiny portions of fiddled with food which I much prefer. The service was not as polished as the food. There was no obvious manager and we had different servers which is never quite as good as one for the entire meal. The servers were scruffy not appropriate for such a lovely building. Overall it was OK but could have been superb with more attention to some details. Service: 2 Location: 3"
