"We had the loveliest weekend staying at Winyards Gap Inn all the staff are brilliant (especially the new manager, who is just lovely and the food and drink was top notch in addition to a great range of beer and cider, there are a fair few alcohol free options too. Inside the pub is lovely and cosy, and there's sheltered outdoor seating and an incredible beer garden too, with the most stunning views. I could have sat there all day! The room was very comfortable, and all areas are dog friendly our little dog had a lovely time too. Breakfast was great, and a special mention for the chef who makes the best scrambled eggs I've had in a long time. One thing that would be nice would be if a little more information on the local area could be provided in the rooms our signal was pretty poor and the pub WiFi didn't quite stretch to where we were staying (although in many ways that was quite nice! so we had to be fairly tactical when it came to sitting down and deciding how to spend each day a guide book or a few little pamphlets could have helped a lot! Overall though, I'd be back in a heartbeat. Thank you so much for such a lovely weekend!"

"Whislt staying at the Acorn Inn down the road in charming Evershot, we went for tea at the Summer Lodge. This is a sister hotel of the Acorn Inn. Oh wow...what a perfect venue for a celebratory tea or just for a little bit of self-endulgence! This is a must...absolutely delicious from the savoury platters that we had for our tea (we don't have a sweet tooth) to the accompanying champagnes and wine. We did admire the neighbouring table's treats and sweet delights of pastries, cakes and scones...all made and served to perfection with absolute artistry. We could see the satisfaction and joy on their faces too."

"Always good for a special meal. Varied menu and balanced wine list. One gets the impression that great care is taken in both the preparation and presentation of each dish. Staff are courteous and friendly. I choose this restaurant for my Birthday lunch when visiting the region on an annual basis. Highly recommended.....you won't go wrong here. I should add the location is great...Evershott is a charming village with a few decent walks."

"I arrived in the evening it was already dark. Pulled into the completely dark, empty carpark and looked at the huge dark building in front of me. The central area had lights on but both ‘wings’ of the hotel were in darkness’. As I crossed the carpark and got closer I could see into some of the public areas which were obviously closed. I noticed the windows were dirty and weeds growing up between the pavers. After a long day travelling I was disappointed to find that the hotel must be closed! I pushed the door and it opened, I went inside and there was no one. Not on reception, in the bar, no one anywhere. Next to the lift I found an envelope with my name on it. They room key inside and phone number of some local pubs if I wanted to eat. I had to get back in my car and go out again to find something to eat. In the morning i realised they didn’t serve breakfast and I had to go buy it in a cafe across the carpark. The room itself was ok, a bit grubby in a few places and the bathroom was really hot while the room was cold as the air con was on all day. After breakfast I left my key back on the table and left. I can’t say for sure if i was the only guest but being in a huge building with the front door unlocked, on my own, with no staff was a little unnerving. I won’t be back."

"First Sunday lunch outpost lockdown.... food excellent as we have come to expect, always our first choice and we look forward to a Hix Sunday lunch. Great qualIty ingredients as always for our lunch, excellent roast beef sirloin, cooked beautifully medium rare, massive Yorkshire pudding and all the potatoes and veg excellent. It was a sunny and warm day for mid Spring hence the place was very busy. As a result service was a little stretched and a little sporadic which did impact our overall experience from outstanding to very good. The team were warm and friendly despite the obvious pressure points however, the main challenge being the initial wait to order our food, after that everything did flow.It’s the same Hix experience we have always enjoyed in a stunning country pub location. We will be back and look forward to being able to dine in as well as dining al fresco, under canvas."
