"Upon arriving at the restaurant, we immediately sensed that it was a special place. It was well worth venturing away from the main quay area. The recently refurbished building had a lovely interior, with leather armchairs and sofas in the main bar creating a cosy atmosphere around a huge fireplace. The manager shared some of the restaurant's history and their journey to reopening, ensuring we were well taken care of. Despite the cocktail menu officially starting next week, he graciously made us a couple of cocktails. We enjoyed a delightful half hour in the bar before moving downstairs to the Wine Merchants Cellar for a delicious cheese platter and wine. The cellar, with its low vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork, was beautifully designed. Lola provided us with exceptional service, ensuring our experience was unforgettable. She went above and beyond to accommodate our preferences, engage in conversation, and provide helpful recommendations. Throughout the evening, she remained attentive and friendly. We will definitely be returning to this hidden gem in the future."

It was the Best Sunday Roast we all had. For a family of all grown up, sometimes all hard to please, we opted for beef and they were all excellent. View menu

Met by two lovely bar staff Lola and Ella. These two girls ran the bar and food on a busy August Saturday evening. Always smiling and happy to chat . They showed us menus even though we weren’t eating, suggested we look at the new...seller offerings and were happy to recommend Nothing was too much trouble for them. This was a great bar in its Marine days and I can see it coming back with the food offerings and helpful staff. Defo worth a visit and hats off to Lola and Ella.

We made a reservation at this restaurant based on a friend's suggestion and we were not let down. The Thursday night special includes steak or mussels with a bottle of wine for a reasonable price. We decided to try the mussels and they did not disappoint! The staff, especially our waiter Harrison, was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The Blue Boar is now under new management and I highly recommend trying it out. We are local residents and will definitely be returning.

My friends and I visited the Pub for lunch and were very impressed with the service and food. So, we decided to book the Blue Boar for a bar lunch to celebrate after our wedding at the Register Office. James, Gareth, and the rest of the team provided us with a wonderful experience. They helped us choose a delicious menu, from nibbles to starters, mains, and desserts. The service on the day was fantastic. We were beyond pleased with everything and truly had a lovely experience. The Pub is definitely a hidden gem in Poole, and everyone has been pleasantly surprised by it. View menu

As we visited the Pub for lunch and we loved the service and the food, we chose to book the Blue Boar for an open bar lunch, to celebrate with our friends and family after we got married at the Registrars. James, Gareth and the team offered us a great experience! They helped us select a lovely menu, the food was absolute delicious, from nibbles to starters, mains and desserts and the service on the day was great! We couldn’t have asked for more and the team has offered us a lovely experience! I feel the Pub is a hidden gem in Poole and everyone has been so pleasantly surprised!

Visited on and there were seven of us and a dog. The man who served us was very welcoming and attentive and helpfully informed us that the kitchen was busy with mains on our neighbouring table and that we would be served next. It's...not often that you get honesty like this in hospitality and I appreciate being told that we'll have to wait longer than usual and why. We had all mains tasty pub grub as expected. Unfortunately one meal was burnt, a chicken burger and blackened bun. However this was promptly redone and then taken off the bill. Apologies were made by our server but the kitchen was at fault there (it should never have made it to the table). Toilets are in desperate need of renovat...

"Booked a table of 5 for my birthday dinner. We were promptly seated then immediately asked for drinks orders before even being offered a drinks menu or water. After we had ordered drinks we were being rushed into ordering some food, every two minutes different waiters coming and asking if we are ready to order (at least 7 times). After we did order and the food was brought out, we were then just forgotten about and nobody came over anymore to check if we needed any more drinks (4 out of 5 glasses were empty) or if the food was ok. (It was- but no one checked). After we had finished dining, we still had empty glasses and had to wait 20+ minutes until we eventually stopped a waiter walking past and asked if we could order more drinks. The drinks then took another 15 minutes to come. It was also very disappointing that although we had mentioned on the booking itself that it was for my birthday, there was no acknowledgement of this (I have been before and had received a plate with ‘happy birthday’ written on it in some kind of sauce with a sparkler). My sister even went to ask the woman working on the front desk and received a standoffish attitude back saying no. When the £235 bill came, it even listed ‘birthday plate £0.00’ on it!!! That really let the evening down. The interactions with the staff themselves were great, they were very polite and personable but the actual level of service of being rushed to order and then totally forgotten about really dampened what could have been a fantastic evening."
