The Golden Lion - Menu

I ordered takeout for delivery from this restaurant for the first time as a tourist in the area. The delivery was fast, and the food was delicious. The containers were packed with plenty of fresh vegetables and meat. Overall, it was great value for money.

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had, The noodles were congealed, the pancakes were so hard you could not eat them. Most of our order went in the bin. I did phone and complained and was told I was just used to other restaurants which I will be using in the future because I like to eat what I pay for

Just reopened after closing for the coronavirus lockdown, had a first time home delivery arranged for 7 pm and ordered just after 5 pm, came at 7.15 which wasn’t a problem and the delivery man apologised for the delay. Ordered a meal for two which was of a better quality than before the lockdown,only £1 delivery charge . Both of us very pleased. View menu

I have usually enjoyed the delicious Chinese food from this restaurant, but last night's experience was disappointing. The Prawn Toast tasted strange, almost like it had cheese in it, which is not how it usually tastes. I contacted the restaurant to express my concerns and they gave me a £6 credit for my next order. I believe it will be some time before I decide to order from there again.

We arrived to a queue but most people had already pre ordered. Whilst waiting for our order the phone did not stop ringing. The food was hot and the spice in the curry was plentiful we are glad we paid a return visit. The only downside for us was that they did not deliver to our campsite because it took 15 minutes round trip. However with food that tastes this good it was worth waiting for and collecting ourselves

I rarely write a bad review, I would rather say nothing. For speed tonight we needed a takeaway. When we got it home it was hard to work out how the dishes equated to our order: two seemed identical and the rice contained prawns and slabs of some unidentifiable flesh. We haven't eaten meat for over 30 years so this was disappointing. We couldn't face the 12 mile round trip to take it back so we fed it to the cats, but even they weren't keen. I ordered takeout at the end of August and the pork was so tough that it was inedible. I called to inform them and they gave me credit for the dish, which I thought was fair. Tonight, I ordered for delivery again, including Pork Balls with Sweet and Sour sauce. Once again, the pork was unchewable and had to be thrown away. The rest of the meal was okay but not great. The spring rolls were also chewy. Unfortunately, I will not be giving them another chance after being disappointed twice. I have no personal vendetta, just sharing my honest opinion. Disappointed.

We went to the Golden Lion as a party of 6 , and decided to go for the £18 all you can eat option. We a selection of great starters including some yummy chicken sate in peanut sauce. For our mains we had a selection of around 12 13 dishes which only scratched the surface of the extensive menu all of them delicious! After all that we were pretty stuffed (lightweights! , but I am sure other people could have carried on sampling. The service was very efficient and helpful. An experience, in a lovely building which must have an interesting history, not to be missed. A good night out! :

Having had a takeaway from here before, we decided on Chinese, to celebrate our son's 21st birthday. I think that McDonald's would have been a better choice. At least the food is freshly cooked. Our son, who is a qualified chef, said that everything was pre-prepared and heated up in a microwave. The beef with ginger and spring onions, was just a few pieces of over cooked beef, half a spring onion and 2 small slices of ginger. The rest of the pot was onion. It had no taste whatsoever. The duck was tasteless and the lamb was chewy. The spring rolls were chewy. The noodles were dry and in a lump. The rice was in a lump. Most of it ended up in the bin.
