"When I booked a table for Sunday lunch I was told the main restaurant was full and we would be seated in a small private room off the main room, which we liked the sound of very much. However when we arrived the table we were shown was bang in the middle of the main room. After discussion we changed table and sat at a table at the front next to the bay window, which was fine. We both ordered roast beef and asked that the gravy be served on the side. When our meals arrived the gravy had already need poured over the food, so it went back to the kitchen. When the second plates came back the beef as was covered up by a huge bunch of watercress and it was difficult to see if there was actually any beef on the plate. A very untidy presentation and as Michel Roux says, you should be able to see the main event. The beef was ok, if a bit fatty. The vegetables were dry and wrinkled and had clearly been cooked some time earlier. The worst part of the meal was the Yorkshire pudding which was old and stale and had the appearance, taste and texture of yellow cardboard."

"We love The Elm Tree, location is stunning. Cosy for food in the barn with an open fire in the winter or take in the views in the conservatory. There's also another open fire in the snug or farmers bar as its locally know! Our food was incredible. The burger was on another level, you know its a great burger when the juice is running down your fingers! The fish was delightful with a beautiful crunchy batter. Generous portions!!! Couldn't finish my chips! We had a bottle of pinot noir to wash it all down with, which was equally delightful. Staff are warm and friendly and it's refreshing to see the chef front of house who prepared your food! You won't be disappointed!"

"We went here as a family gathering for lunch and to have some food. We were quite blown away by the selection of food, so many good options. I had a lovely bowl of mussels, which were really good. Not many places do mussels, especially pubs, so I had to seize this opportunity. My group had their starters too, which they enjoyed like paté and camembert. For mains, I had a massive burger, which I enjoyed so much that I forgot to take a picture. For dessert, I had a delectable sticky toffee pudding that again I again forgot to take a pic of. I just want to shout out to the lovely lady server we had that went out of our way for our child and got a special strawberry on top of their ice cream, which my child loved. The service was great. We loved the atmosphere. We will definitely be back."

"The original Mortimer cafe is a classic greasy spoon, in a positive sense. The new location across from the Co-op is an improvement, offering a wide selection of fresh food, delightful service, and convenient opening hours. Although slightly more expensive, it is worth the price. They also serve the best flat white in the area."

"Friends encouraged us to try this takeaway instead of out other favoured local restaurant, stating everything was so fresh, so for our once a month Friday night treat we decided to give it a go. I wish we had just ordered from our reliable trusted restaurant. Poppadum's were rancid and inedible, clearly VERY old fat in the fryer. Pappads were burnt. Mint sauce was watered down so split, the mango chutney was sugary water, also watered down. The Onion salad has very little coriander, no mint and tough. The Nann was undercooked, chewy and insipid, the Tikka Balti had sliced chicken not cubed, but the Tikka Masala had cubed chicken? I have no idea what went wrong, but it was to such an extent I will never ever be ordering again."
