"Hugely disappointed with our evening in terms of the lack of organisation and service. This was a special occasion for my wife's Birthday and we we were grossly let down by a woeful lack of people to serve what was a completely full restaurant. The barmaid was in tears and kept apologising but credit to her and the two others who tried their best to look after everyone. There was no ice in the place so white wine was served in a cooler with just tap water and we were given no wine glasses as they had run out. We were eventually given three glasses (for 10) which were hot just out of the dishwasher and the rest of us used gin glasses and water tumblers. Two of the red wines on the list that we requested were not available. We experienced long delays in being served with drinks as the poor staff were just completely overwhelmed. On the positive side, the food itself was very nice and no complaints there. We were also grateful to Krystle and the other two staff for trying their best to look after us. What is most disappointing, is the lack of response from the owner James to my expression of concerns in emails. Whilst initially responding and saying he would come back to me after seeing the staff, there has been a resounding silence, despite my further requests for contact. I see this lack of respect is also shown to another recent reviewer. We spent a lot of money on this meal and have had good meals there in the past but sadly we could not recommend anyone to go there after this experience."

We planned lunch at The Lamb on a walk in the area on Friday 8 October. We found the out closed and looked like it wasn't trading any more. Massive disappointment as we had checked Internet and found no evidence it was shut. AVOID!

Visited with friends and found the place to be really beautiful, so much character with all the nooks, cranes, and decor. I could have just sat there and enjoyed the inside. Food was well prepared and tasted good. Would go back again.

We have been to this delightful pub numerous times but our last experience as part of the party of 10 celebrationing a friends birthday was worse than disappointing. The owner clearly has no regard that his customers experience is always 100%. No manager in sight a staff of 3 were left to cope with a restaurant at full capacity and were trying their best to keep their heads above water. As stated in the previous review we agree with all that is said and cannot help likening it to fawlty towers but without the humour. We won’t be going back.

Very disappointed, went on Monday after Christmas, obviously had been busy over Christmas and didn’t really care. Tried to convince me that the soup was squash and lemongrass but was green with celery strands in!! Told the whitebait was breadcrumbed but was paprika floured and fried, smokie had little or no fish in! Cumberland sausage served in a bowl swimming in wine laden gravy. But the steaks were fairly tasty. Waited ages for service and the Barman admitted that the chef was on day off! If you have bookings why wouldn’t you hire even a agency chef. A waste of a evening out.

We arrived at the restaurant at 12:30 on a weekday and were surprised to find that they had run out of bread and sandwiches. R enjoyed the butternut soup with a piece of bread instead of the focaccia listed on the menu. The portion size was small. A had the mac and cheese, which looked nice but was not eaten quickly. T liked the sea bass. O and I were disappointed with the fish and chips as the fish was tasteless. Service was slow and we had to repeat our dessert order twice. A dog was also wandering around our table. However, we did enjoy a delicious cider recommended by the restaurant.

In the morning, we had the choice of a delicious muesli with fruit compote and yogurt, followed by salmon and eggs or a hearty full English breakfast with orange juice, tea, or coffee. The quality of the food was clearly a priority for the proprietor, James, who uses local produce. Our room was charming and spotlessly clean, with an incredibly comfortable bed and a luxurious shower. The staff, especially a young lady named Crystal, were attentive and went out of their way to please the customers. Thank you to James and his staff for a wonderful stay. This inn is truly a gem, and you must be proud of your achievement.

Overall the stay here was just OK. On the positive side, the owner and staff were all truly lovely, friendly and helpful. However, we encountered a few issues. Firstly, our room was tiny, which you would expect in an old coaching inn... but there was no room to swing a cat (or weekend bag)! It also looked like our room was cleaned a few weeks ago and left to gather dust. It felt quite unclean there were lots of hairs behind the sink, dust everywhere and old sticky ring marks from glasses on the bedside tables. Then, we had an early sitting for dinner and they had already run out of several dishes on New Year’s Eve!!! It wasn’t that big a menu! So bizarre! We were only there for a night but e...

"Honestly...one of the best pub restaurants I have ever visited! We chose to eat here as it was recommended via Alistair Sawday, and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, hygiene and service were all 5* when we visited last night. We sat inside, by candlelight, and ordered 2 starters (the Rye smoked mackerel with buttercream sauce and the heritage tomato salad and 2 mains (the beef burger with fries and the hake with toasted ciabatta and garden peas . It was truly exquisite! We both cleaned our plates (and we don't usually do that! . My only mild criticism is that I didn't realise the hake dish would include bacon lardons they certainly added to the flavour, but as an ethical pescatarian, this could have ruined the meal for me (I didn't allow it to, but 10 years ago when I was more strict it may have upset me . I may have simply missed this ingredient when reading the menu, and I didn't make the waiting staff aware of my dietary preferences, so I accept this was my fault and not theirs. It's just something for other pescatarians reading this review to be aware of. I have absolute confidence that they would prepare the hake dish without the bacon lardons if you asked. As for me....my boyfriend gleefully took them from my plate and demolished them himself! We also enjoyed a medium glass of wine each my boyfriend (who is very particular loved the tempranillo and I had their Italian pinot grigio. Our entire meal would have been less than £60, but with the current government incentive scheme to eat in, it came to less than £40!! We tipped generously as they truly deserved it. We will 100% be returning and can't advocate them enough."
