"We visited the Chequers Inn when staying at the nearby Charney Manor hotel. We were greeted with a warm welcome and seated by the wood burning fire lovely Great choices on the menu and the men in our group enjoyed a local beer. My husband had the lamb shank whilst I had beef and mushroom stroganoff, our companions had the Christmas dinner and steak pie. We all enjoyed our food especially the beautifully cooked vegetable which accompanied the meals. Although we probably didn’t need it we all had desserts which too were enjoyable. The nicest thing about the pub welcoming staff and no TV or music playing, just an opportunity to sit, eat good food and talk to each other"

"We came to the volunteer 2 weeks ago we had an amazing Lunch -meat platter. We had our temperature checked our names taken so felt very safe. We returned yesterday to get a meat platter again but unfortunately it was a disaster, a different member of staff to our previous time! We had no temperature checked, no name taken, and was just told to walk straight in after waiting at the entrance door for 5 minutes where we was following instruction not to enter until we was seen! Instead someone inside told the bar lady we was waiting and she just told us to come in! no soap in the toilet even after asking for soap to be provided, still none put there before we left. The meat platter was nothing like what we had 2 weeks ago, complete different dish and was told it was an error on the menu although we ate there 2 weeks previously and had an amazing meat platter so they lied. Absolutely awful tbh and will never return which is a shame as we recommended to all our friends after our first time."

"The staff at this restaurant were extremely rude. I was not impressed and will not be returning. It took three requests for a glass of water for myself and my son after we ordered drinks. The water was finally placed on our table without a word. The food was bland and even the couple at the next table were complaining about their meal. When it came time to pay, the server abruptly tapped the card machine without saying please or thank you. After I paid, he said nothing, not even a thank you. I was angry and stared at him until he finally grumbled "ok." As we left, he didn't even say thank you. My 14-year-old son had better manners by thanking him. There are many other nice restaurants in Wantage and I regret not choosing one of them. We paid £45 for a mediocre meal and terrible customer service. I do not recommend this restaurant."

"I recently cycled here for an overnight stay with my girlfriend. The staff were very helpful in terms of accommodating the bikes from booking and on arrival. The room was very nice and comfortable, but can imagine it may get hot in the summer as there is no air con. The bathroom was very nice, with a great shower and the bed was large and comfortable. It has to be said, that for the price, it was very, very reasonable. we paid £140 for an overnight stay, including £70 towards our meal, and a great breakfast with decent coffee. The bar was reasonable and the food was good, with italian meals that aren't necessarily the bog standard selection. If you are looking for an overnight stay, I'd recommend."

"beautiful small pub in small village. exelent service and exelent food! Sundays carvery was spot on, all three of us had the roast pork bell served with cheesy leek and brocoli, apple and apple sauce and a common side of veg. everything was boiled to perfection and large portions, so they definitely always great worth for their money. we also had lattes and again they are good quality and creamy. we had a pod table that I could imagine are even better in summer when they are out. do not let them shut off during this winter, as they have put the pods in a jaquee with heating and it is very pleasant to have their own little blase! well decorated and designed. if they are looking for a beautiful Sunday meal, this is the place will be returned defined. (the pictures don't give enough credit to eat!"
