The Pepperpot Brasserie

The restaurant offers a great selection of food, all prepared to a high standard and beautifully presented. The staff is very friendly and helpful, consistently providing the same high level of service.

Although a little dated, this is a charming hotel and a refreshing change from a modern gastro pub. The service was good, the food excellent, portions generous and a reasonably priced wine list. What's not to like? Will definitely be back.

Sunday lunch. Excellent sauces and large portions. Good friendly service. We had to wait a bit because the lasagne dish took longer to arrive than the roasts, despite it being on the Sunday menu. This is the second lunch for me here and I recommend it.

So wrote the author Henry Fielding of his visit in 1749, and the same is true today. The Pepperpot Brasserie is part of The White Lion hotel and the decor is charming and traditional, retaining oak beams from the 1500s. The ambiance is delightful and the food and service are of a very high standard. I look forward to a return visit.

Good service Not very full but it was mid week. Food not overly enthralling. Starter good main course OK. Dessert very good. I will give them their due. One woman on a nearby table had some under cooked fish. It was taken away without any fuss and replaced with a complete replacement meal which she was very happy with. So, full marks for that. Would I eat there again? Maybe...

Walked into Upton from a B&B a short walk away. Having checked out a couple of menus as we walked along the river (and the first restaurant we arrived at having a private function on), we headed onto the high street and stopped at the White Lion. Drinks were brought to us within minutes, and service all evening was fantastic. We ordered home cooked fish and chips and vegetarian cannelloni, both of which came relatively quickly and were fantastic. Two mains and drinks came to £30. Would certainly return.

We recently stayed at the White Lion and were not very impressed with the hotel, which had some unwelcoming rules and regulations for guests, nor were we charmed by the Brasserie. While the publicity blurb was enticing, the actual experience did not live up to our expectations. The service was lackluster, the food was forgettable, and the atmosphere felt cold. Overall, we were not overly impressed with the food, drinks, atmosphere, or service at the Brasserie. However, the rest of the staff were friendly and capable. It is possible that locals have a better experience than visitors. We visited on 26/27 September and are unlikely to return in the future.

Since moving to the area two years ago, we had been eager to try the White Lion as part of our quest to sample all the local restaurants. The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed a drink in the bar while we waited for our table in the restaurant, and were called in about 20 minutes later. Despite expecting a full restaurant, we were surprised to see that less than half of the tables were occupied. I ordered the fish and chips, while my wife opted for the burger. Although both dishes were tasty, they were let down by the soggy chips - a disappointment considering the steep prices. For £13 per main, we expected top-quality gastro pub fare, where the basics...

The Pepperpot Brasserie is at the White Lion Hotel, bang in the centre of Upton. If your idea of a great meal out is the latest gastro pub built from a catalogue and charging prices that are a step above their rank, then the Pepperpot is probably not for you. If you appreciate really excellent food ranging from the traditional to the innovative at a very fair price and with excellent service in more traditional (but not dated) surroundings then the Pepperpot is the best for miles around.
