"Wed 18th April 2018 12 noon. On entering we were greeted by the barman and found a table and looked at the menu. I decided on a curry with rice and my companion on a burger with blue cheese which i ordered with drinks. The pub itself was very tidy and clean with a relaxing atmosphere. My curry came in a bowl with rice on one side and curry on the other. The rice was cooked ok and the curry was tasty if not a little dry, could have done with more liquid to go with the rice, a popadom and some mango chutney would have been nice to go with it. My companions burger was nice but a little overcooked for his liking and it came with chips. It has been mentioned by other diners that they were not the best, and we do agree they could be better. They seem more like french fries and although they looked brown they were a bit soft and needed to be a little bigger. To sum up , nice and friendly pub , very clean and tidy but we felt the food needs a little tweak."

The food here is lovely, especially for a little country pub, dont let the fact its a Marstons decieve you. They have their own menu and all home cooked food, not that boil in the bag rubbish. The lasagne is amazing too.

First time using the take away service, ready to collect within 10 minutes of ordering . My husband had the burgers and chips, I had lasagne and chips, followed by the sponge pudding. Both meals were absolutely delicious, Highly recommend!

If your looking for a warm and welcoming pub with friendly staff look know further, always come here after work for some bevs and have been for food in the past which is also highly recommend, if having a curry don’t ask for extra spice because it might kill you. Best in the local area by far.

If you’re looking for a high quality pub with great beer and great food I’d say look no further, very friendly staff including landlords Rich and Laura. I and a few friends from work always come later on in the night to this pub and they are always happy to keep the doors open and serve. Favourite pub in derby!

A really good range of food, and good beers in a traditional pub, conveniently located a few miles from Derby, and in our case, walking distance from Oakwood. The food choices are extensive, with both a standard menu and a wide ranging daily specials menu too. Beer choices are good with real/keg ales plus more usual offerings. Our food was both well cooked and delicious with generous portion sizes. Service was friendly and efficient. All told very good value.

Long much anticipated visit to this establishment turned put to be so disappointing. Pre drinks turned up an undrinkable beer, which was replaced. My meal was a small monkfish tail served only with a serving of chilli rice which was lacking in flavour and so hot as to be inedible for me. When asked by the waitress whether we had enjoyed our meals, I politely told her that I had not eaten the rice as I had found it far to hot. The reply came back from the kitchen It said chilli on the menu

This place has always been a good choice if you want home cooked food at a price that's reasonable. Its a lovely old pub. In fact I think my parents used to visit this place when they dated some moons ago! Anyway, I fancied a cheese and onion sandwich, chips and a pint of shandy... wow not disappointed. Home made and I mean home made chips! Lovey sandwich with salad and crisps. Absolutely delight. So good I went back the same week and ordered the lasagna! Dont drive past this place. Its lovely and has nailed it for the pub scene with good nice Pedigree and lovely food.. Warm welcome too!

Four of us had an evening meal here recently, I would rate the four meals as 4 star, 3 star, 2 star and 1 star. Various things were not available, some of which we were told of prior to ordering, which is fine, but some we were not. One of us was also given the wrong vegetable with the meal. My meal luckily was the four star meal , well cooked and generous portion. The one star meal was poor, no presentation and slopped into the middle of what was quite similar to a soup dish. The portion size and meal was similar to a Morrison’s £2 ping meal, and was no better. My 83 old mum could have eaten it all and still had room for a sandwich for supper when she got home. I’ve been here in the past, n...

"we enjoyed another very pleasant dinner at the Dog’ in pentrich recently. it is a very civilized but relaxed escaping area, and the type of place where people are miles for, for the culinary experience traveling and with good ground. eating is good. the dining room is spacious, contemporary and beautifully furnished with a relaxed ambiente. also the adjacent bar area is very cozy and cozy. we were warmly welcomed and immediately shown on our table. the service was attentive and pleasant, without being overlaid or intrusive. our meals were very pleasant and we enjoyed the selection of things we had (start, head and dessert). However, it seemed to be some unconsistencies with a portion size. with the appetizers the leek and the potato portion was very small a piece laek about two centimeters long filled with cheese and in a sea of sauce to convey the grasp of “more”. the crispy szechuan cauliflower and aubergine, on the other hand, contained large parts of the two components of the teller. similar to the net, the green thai chicken contained three very large portions of huh in different shapes: a large chicken breast as the main component of the Thai chicken shell, accompanied by a huge serving of shredded chicken in rice, and a huge Bao beer filled with a large piece of baked chicken. while the various components were delicious, it was just chicken overload, almost like three main dishes as one, and much too much. the same applies to the puddings we have chosen. the dog inn trifle was a huge bowl with lemon-rossel sponge, with white chocolate-creuzard, and celestial gel and sorbet. the yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake, on the other hand, was a very small roll of cheesecake with a puppy game of rhubarb sorbet and a few pieces of poached rhubarb. our meals were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed them. the hanger steak was cooked nicely after a discussion about it; it was clearly stated on the menu that the hanger steak was ‘Served ‘Pink or well Done’, but we were informed that it could not be ordered well. which condition is then on the menu? the dog is worth looking. it is in the beautiful and historical village pentrich, on the b1016 between the towns ripley and alfreton in derbyshire. we're coming back."
