"Went in for lunch and were warmly greeted when we went in. It was very quiet, only one other person was inside. Looked at the menu on the table and saw there were mainly breakfasts available all day and toasted sandwiches and paninis. Ordered the breakfast which cost around £8.50 and had bacon, sausages 2 of each), fried egg, baked beans, tomato and mushrooms. Asked for no baked beans as I don't like them and was offered another tomato instead. Hubby got a cheese and ham toastie. Our drinks arrived I had a latte, they had sweeteners available if you ask for them. Hubby's toastie came next and he really enjoyed it, said it had a very good amount of filling and it was really tasty. Finally my lunch arrived and I noticed that it had baked beans on there : I had to quickly move everything around so the sauce didn't go on anything else. I didn't like the taste of the tomato, it was very watery, I gave them to hubby I'd just been given one tomato in two halves, so I don't think I'd got extra as I'd been offered, but that was instead of the beans, which I'd still been given, so I think my order wasn't dealt with very well, might be a good idea if they write things down in future. The sausages weren't to my taste either, they went to hubby. For me, the bacon was overdone and tasted too salty. I did eat it as I was hungry. The hash brown was really lovely, shame there wasn't two! I got one slice of toast with one pat of butter, it was well toasted and tasted nice. I didn't enjoy my lunch very much at all. If I come back, I will try something else."

The service was terrible and the prices were way too high. The chef made a mistake with my order and didn't bother to fix it. I will not return to this restaurant.

Visited here this morning, hungry after a two hour drive and was treated to the best full English breakfast I can ever recall. Beautifully cooked, top notch ingredients, very generous quantity, and lovely friendly service. Perfection.

I cannot provide an accurate review regarding the food or indeed the service on offer as the cafe was closed. The opening times displayed on the door indicated that they open at 9am on Mondays however, sadly, this was not the case yesterday. We waited until 9.15 then gave up and found an amazing little cafe located in nearby Polegate (see my review). View menu

A friend who was visiting from the USA was craving a traditional full English breakfast before returning home. Although we had never been here before, we decided to try it out. The service was friendly and inviting. The café had a cozy atmosphere and the breakfast was plentiful, delicious, and reasonably priced. I now have a go-to spot for when I want a satisfying breakfast, brunch, or lunch!

7am opening, friendly welcome, meat supplied by a local butcher (2 doors down) ... current cafe litmus test bacon, sausage and egg sandwich, brown sauce, white bread, mug of tea ... this was perfect, great tasting sausage and bacon, fresh egg (and your asked how you would like it cooked) ... good banter, pleasant clean decor ... a little above usual cost, but well worth the money and the 1 mile walk from Polegate station. Tried this for the first time since the new owners. Very friendly place. Drinks were good and piping hot. The full breakfast was excellent. Sausage and bacon from the butchers next door. Free range eggs. Heinz baked beans etc. Lovely home made potato rosti. All lovely and hot which makes a big difference to me. All in all highly recommended if you're in the area or passing as there is plenty of parking. The opening times are wrong on here apparently. It's 7-3 Mon Friday,8-1 Saturday. We shall return. During our journey back from Eastbourne, we stumbled upon this wonderful café. We decided to order a small English breakfast and a small vegetarian breakfast. I must say, both dishes were very generous in portion size. The chef, Matt, even came out to confirm if my wife was a vegetarian and assured us that he would cook her meal separately. The food was freshly made, and the vegetarian breakfast options included halloumi and spinach. Both my wife and I agreed that this was a great discovery and one of the best breakfasts we've ever had. We will definitely be returning when we are in the area again.

I have no real quibbles about my lunch, apart from the very small size of the individual quiche with salad I ordered. My partner, however, who ordered the vegetarian breakfast, experienced a very bad bout of digestive disorder that day and all of the following day. The grilled halloumi was most probably responsible for this, in her opinion, as it did not taste good. The prices are rather high for what you get for your money. Not good value for money. The tables and the chairs could be a bit cleaner (with no bits of food left on them). We were overcharged 50 pence on the bill. Yes, I know. Not the end of the world. However, if they make a practice of doing this, the extra takings will surely...

"The last time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago, it WAS a real hidden gem. When I walked in this evening nothing had changed and I was hoping the food would be just as good as I remembered. Service was slow which surprised us as it was a Sunday night and pretty empty. We were given some olives while we ordered (the nicest part of the meal unfortunately). My boyfriend ordered the garlic focaccia with caramelised onion; the bits that had cheese and onion on were very tasty but this was only about 30% of the focaccia, the rest of the bread was over cooked and bland. I ordered bruschetta which was completely underwhelming. 4 small pre sliced bits of stale bread, some chopped up soft tomato and pesto with rocket in the centre. I could have made this at home. For mains I ordered what I always used to have, linguine alla marinara. The portion of pasta was decent, however I only counted 6 pieces of seafood and one large prawn on the top. The menu states it also comes with tomato’s which there were none of. The flavour tasted like buttery pasta with a hint of garlic, again completely underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered spaghetti meatballs. A large portion but completely inedible as it was absolutely disgusting. The sauce tasted like pure tomato purée, so lumpy and stodgy and the meatballs were like nothing we had ever tasted, VILE. We decided to bring the rest of the portion home for my mum (a head chef) to try. We wanted to know what she thought the flavour was as we were confused as to how you can make a meatball taste so vulgar! She spat it out immediately saying it tasted like it had either been cooked in or made with rancid/old fat. The cherry on the top for us was when we asked for the bill. We were given the generic boiled sweets that come with it. 2 of the boiled sweets were in wrappers however there was a third that stuck them all together that was half chewed, out of it’s wrapper. The place was COVERED in cobwebs, decor completely outdated with many flashing lights, menu pages stuck together and stank, looked like they had many a drink spilt over them and not once changed. Don’t even get me started on the toilets! We cleaned our own cutlery it was so filthy and swapped side plates with an empty table next to us as ours had food still on them. Left feeling completely disappointed and are both now suffering with major trumps. Will not be returning again!"
